    • A handle assembly for a window or door leaf, comprising a first handle grip 14 moveable rotatably between an open and closed position and axially relative to a handle axis, the handle grip attached to a spindle 7, a blocking means comprising a blocking formation 7b on the spindle and a stop member on the housing comprising a bore, wherein the blocking formation and bore both have non-circular shaped cross sections such that when the blocking formation engages the bore, the spindle and handle grip cannot rotate, the handle assembly is transformed from the non-latch-operating (blocked) configuration to the latch-operating configuration (unblocked) by moving the handle grip axially along the handle axis, wherein the handle is biased into the closed position preferable via a spring bias arrangement 19, and a snib mechanism can retain the handle grip in the open position and comprises a counterbore recess 44 which is angularly offset relative to the bore and a shoulder 7e on the spindle, such that when the handle grip is in the open position the shoulder enters the recess and prevents the handle grip from returning to the closed position against the force of a bias, e.g. a spring 24.

    • A security system 100 comprises a first sensor 110 and a magnet 120. The first sensor 110 is mounted to a frame 14 of an openable door or window, whilst the magnet 120 is mounted to a leaf 12. The first sensor 110 may be three axis magnetometer that detects position of the corresponding magnet 120 in three co-ordinate axes. The security system 100 is calibrated in-situ during initial setup. The leaf is placed in a number of positions (such as closed, marginally closed and open). In each position, the magnetometer output is registered and a corresponding location point in a co-ordinate system identified. For each location point, a bounding space 210,211,213 is then defined, each location point being within a bounding space. The bounding space may be a predefined tolerance for each respective position. In another aspect, a system may determine whether a sensed location point falls outside of a predetermined bounding space and generate an alert accordingly. In a further aspect, a second sensor may be provided wherein each sensor may have a normal and activated state dependent upon an applied magnetic field. In another aspect, a first sensor detects whether a leaf has been moved or knocked.

    • A locking system comprising at least one target object, preferably a magnet and a detector to sense the object/the magnetic field and a processor to receive an output signal to determine one or more lock statuses based on the sensed output. The target object may also be an RFID tag, Bluetooth (RTM), NFC tag. The system may be used to determine one or more types of lock status, such statuses indicating if a key has been left in the lock for longer than a predetermined time period, if the lock is in a locked or unlocked state, whether the wing or leaf is open or closed relative to a sensor mounted on the frame and which key of a set of keys 733x 733y 733z has been in the lock. There may be a calibration key for setting up other keys for use with the lock, each key may have a designated identification (ID code) to monitor the use of the lock by certain individuals. Preferably the target object is located in the lock mechanism but may also be located on a reference structure, for example the wall near a locked door.

    • A user is verified by a mobile computing device e.g. a smartphone or tablet, by capturing an image of the users face, eyes and/or skin using a camera of the device 350. Face, voice or motion recognition, proximity or iris detection may be used. Focus recognition, glare or reflection detection or detection of ambient light may indicate the image is not of a real person. The colour or wavelength of reflected light may be determined, reflected light from a users skin differing to that of a photograph or image displayed on a screen. Transactions may only be verified if it is determined from the biometric information that the user is a real person. An image of a users payment instrument, such as a credit or debit card, may be captured. The user may register with a unique identifier 310-320, which may subsequently be input into the mobile device to authorise a transaction. Transactions may include payments, electronic signatures, remote log in or transfer of images or videos in real time. Payments may be made between users. Online payments may be activated after making a given number of payments at retailers in person.
