Axial movement of the first handle grip causes the spindle to move axially and the second portion engaging the latch means and then rotational movement to the third position throwing the multi-point lock and wherein the first handle grip is secured in the third position, for example via a magnet. The spindle may be a split spindle 7/8.

    • Three security devices for a door or window are disclosed. The first has a resisting unit comprising an upstanding member 20 fixed to a holder 30 which is secured to the leaf or frame, preferably in a Eurogroove channel. The upstanding member is resilient and is deflected when the wing is closed. Due to the spring resistance, the wing will only fully shut when a sufficient force is applied to bend the flipper like upstanding member. The second (Fig 10-12) has a spring cassette type unit with, for e.g. one or two compression springs (120 Fig 10) inside a housing (13). A resisting surface (132) is contacted by the wing and when a sufficient force is applied pushes the unit against the springs. Thirdly, for sliding windows (Figs 13/14) a resisting unit (200) is mounted at the bottom of the sash balance, a spring (220 Fig 14) will resist the window being closed fully unless a great enough force is applied to the window sash to push it down against the spring. For each a sensor system (e.g. reed switch/magnet) may be used to detect full closure of the wing.

    • A magnetometer is configured to sense, in three directions, a magnetic field that changes as a moveable element moves, and to determine the position using the measured magnetic field. During calibration 310, an output value is registered from the sensor when the moveable element is in a first predetermined position 311, and that output value is used as a reference value 313 in determining the position of the moving element. Reference values may be taken for several predetermined positions. The moveable element may be a door or window leaf, may be a locking drive rail, or may move during operation of a latch mechanism, which may be operated using a handle, and the predetermined positions may relate to the door or window being open or closed (311, 317, 320) and/or secured or unsecured (314). A user interface may be provided to signal (e.g. during calibration) when the moveable element is in the predetermined position (312,315,318,321).

    • A locking system comprising at least one target object, preferably a magnet and a detector to sense the object/the magnetic field and a processor to receive an output signal to determine one or more lock statuses based on the sensed output. The target object may also be an RFID tag, Bluetooth (RTM), NFC tag. The system may be used to determine one or more types of lock status, such statuses indicating if a key has been left in the lock for longer than a predetermined time period, if the lock is in a locked or unlocked state, whether the wing or leaf is open or closed relative to a sensor mounted on the frame and which key of a set of keys 733x 733y 733z has been in the lock. There may be a calibration key for setting up other keys for use with the lock, each key may have a designated identification (ID code) to monitor the use of the lock by certain individuals. Preferably the target object is located in the lock mechanism but may also be located on a reference structure, for example the wall near a locked door.
