    • 495,669. Coffee - infusion apparatus. STILL & SONS, Ltd., W. M., and STILL, E. H. Oct. 18, 1937, No. 28314. [Class 129] Coffee is infused by first passing a flow of comparatively cool water through the infusion chamber and thereafter hot water is passed to complete the extraction. The Figure shows an apparatus for this method of infusion. Hot water from a boiler passes through a valve b to a pipe b leading to a device u comprising a thermostatic device d carrying a valve e by which cold water is admitted to mix with the hot water so that comparatively cool water 120‹ F. passes to the infusion chamber a. The cold water supply is shut off when a dashpotcontrolled valve c is closed by spring action. This valve c is automatically opened when the hot water valve b is opened. A cam g on the spindle of the valve b depresses a lever h which through a rod i depresses a lever c to open the cold water valve c . The rod i has a slope piece i by which it is swung to the right out of contact with the lever c whereupon the valve c is able to return under spring action but retarded by the dashpot n. Instead of the thermally controlled valve e an adjustable screw needle valve may be used, Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 407,108 is referred to.

    • 408,513. Coffee infusers. STILL & SONS, Ltd., W. M., and STILL, E. H., 29, Charles Street, Hatton Garden, London. Sept. 13, 1933, No. 25384. [Class 129.] To avoid over or under-extraction of the coffee grounds by the boiling water, the receptacle for the coffee grounds has apertures round its sides for the escape of the infusion. The base a with its infusion outlet a , may be connected to two infusion storage vessels as described in Specification 10148A/07, [Class 129]. The vessel c containing the drum or basket d for the charge of coffee grounds, rests on a packing ring b. The cover h rests on the packing ring k. The vessel and its cover are securely clamped to the packing rings by the screw i. The water is admitted by the pipe m and nozzle l, and is distributed over the grounds by the plate g. The drum d has a perforated bottom and perforated sides to permit escape of the beverage at various heights and to ensure an even infusion. The grounds may be moistened by cold water by the three-way cock n, before supplying the boiling water, after the manner of Specification 407,108.
