    • There is disclosed a safety valve for use in well bore operations, for example, in cooperation with a progressive cavity pump or rodpump. In one embodiment of the invention, a safety valve (1) disclosed which is designed for use with upper and lower conduits in the form of upper and lower pump rod strings (16, 18) located in wellbore production tubing (50). The safety valve comprises a housing (2) having a longitudinal bore (3) extending therethrough; a coupling member (14) for coupling the upper rod string to the lower rod string, the coupling member sealably mounted within the longitudinal bore; an annular flow passage (8) bypassing the coupling member; and valve means comprising a valve sleeve (23) located in the annular flow passage. In use, the valve sleeve is utilised to control flow of fluid through the flow passage bypassing the coupling member.

    • An annular sealing element (12) to seal between metal surfaces for use in flanges, joints, packers and the like, located in oil and gas exploration and production equipment. The sealing element has inner and outer metal deformable surfaces (20, 22) joined at ends (24, 26), defining an interior volume (30) which is entirely filled with a plastic deformable material (28). The surfaces are arranged such that on compression of the element (12) from the ends (24, 26), the element will deform in a controlled manner on a cantilever principle. The volume of filler (28) and the interior volume (30) remain substantially equal during compression so that delamination does not occur. Thus the sealing element provides a seal combining the flexibility of elastomer seals with the integrity of a metal to metal seal.

    • The invention relates to a tree plug for a tree of the type used in the oil and gas exploration and production industry. The invention also relates to a plug and to a lock adapted to be located in various types of downhole tubing, and to a method of plugging a tree bore. In one embodiment, a tree plug (16,17) for a tree (10) having a main tree bore (14) is disclosed, the tree plug having a plug body (22) , a number of locking members (24) mounted for radial movement relative to the plug body between retracted and extended positions, a radially expandable seal element (26) , and a mandrel (28) . The mandrel is translated relative to the plug body to urge the locking- members to the extended position, and to exert an axial force on the seal element to radially expand the seal element, to thereby lock and seal the plug within the tree bore.
