    • Sealing of a substantially annular cylindrical filter element (3) within a chamber, that is integrated in the housing of a machine and comprises a bottom (7) with an inlet (17) or outlet at one end and is closed by a cover (4) at the opposite end, an annular collecting and distribution space (16) being provided between the cylindrical outer surface (6) of the filter element and the circumferential wall (15) of the chamber, said space (16) being connected to an outlet (18) or inlet opening and being sealed against fluid leakage via the axial ends of the filter element (3) by means of sealing rings (9, 13), which are received in grooves formed in a metallic ring-shaped end cap (18) and a metallic bottom end cap (7) of the filter element (3).     • A filter capsule, for example for filtering molten polymers, comprises upper and lower generally flat annular filter media members (40, 40'), welded together at their common outer circumferences (42). Loosely held between the filter media members is an intermediate grooved support plate (48). In use, the polymer to be filtered passes through the media members (40, 40'), into the grooves (50, 50'), and into a mounting tube (not shown) around which the capsule is located. When the media members (40, 40') become clogged with polymer, they are machined off by cutting around the circumference (42). The support plate (48) is then cleaned and re-used with new filter media members.
