    • PURPOSE:To execute always stable rolling regardless of the width of a flat steel without changing particularly horizontal rolls by sliding sleeve rolls constituting the horizontal rolls in the transverse direction thereof to adjust the gap between the sleeve rolls to an adequate gap and subjecting the flat steel to intermediate rolling. CONSTITUTION:The sleeve rolls 7 are respectively slid in the transverse direction in conformity with the width, thickness, etc. of a slab 5 subjected to rough rolling until the sleeves are set in the adequate position, then the slab is subjected to the intermediate rolling in a universal mill. The slab 5 rolled by a universal rolling mill 1 in such a manner has an unrolled down part but the slab 5 is thoroughly flattened in succession thereto in a duplex rolling mill 2 where the slab is thoroughly flattened by the horizontal rolls 6 thereof. More specifically, the rolling mill 1 and the rolling mill 2 for edging, etc. are continuously disposed generally in a production line for an H-beam and the mill 2 shown in the figure is straightly usable as the edging mill for this purpose. The change of the horizontal rolls according to the flat plates having difference widths and thickness is not required and the continuous and stable rolling is made possible even with said flat plate according to the above-mentioned method.

    • PURPOSE:To correct surely the curving of a rolled material which curves at a large pitch along the longitudinal direction thereof by providing vertical rolls on the outlet side of a roughing mill and pressing and bending the front and rear ends of the rolled material in the transverse direction of the material. CONSTITUTION:A pair of vertical rolls 31 which are symmetrical with respect to the centerline 10 of a rolling line or two pairs of vertical rolls which are zigzag are provided on the outlet side of a roughing mill 1. A detector 33 which detects the camber curving at a large pitch along the longitudinal direction of a rolled material and a speed detector 34 are provided on the outlet side of the mill 1. The positions of the rolls 31 are adjusted according to the direction and amt. of the camber as well as the speed of the material 20. After the roll 31 contacts with the end of the material 20, said roll 31 is moved in a correcting direction. The camber is thus surely corrected in a way as to have no adverse influence.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for trimming a width variation part, and to improve product yield, by calculating an optimum width rolling reduction basing on the informations of a slab width, and obtaining the uniform width of the slab at a coil stage after rough rolling by rolling the slab basing on the calculated results. CONSTITUTION:The width in the longitudinal direction of a slab 1 having width variation produced in the front stage of hot rolling is measured by a width measuring part 2. The width information required for hot rolling is calculated from the measured results, and optimum width rolling reduction is decided by the information basing on the extent of width variation allowable as a product. And the optimum rolling reductions of respective roughing mills 10, 11 are set and instructed basing on the optimum width rolling reduction. Thus the slab 1 is rolled to the allowable width by a vertical scale breaker 9 having a caliber and the mills 10, 11, basing on the instructions.

The position in the highest part of the dogbone is measured by measuring the pressure to be exerted on both ends of the roll 4b in contact with the dogbone with strain gages 8a, 8b, and the transverse return extent in the next horizontal rolling mill is estimated with high accuracy from both measured values, so that the broadside size of the rolled plate is controlled to a target size.
