    • The invention relates to a shearing blade (2) for a cutting device (1), comprising a main body (3) that has a seat (11) and a blade insert (4) that is arranged on the seat (11) and forms a cutting wedge (8), wherein the cutting wedge (8) forms a cutting edge (6) by means of a flank face (9) and a pressure face (10) at an angle to the flank face. The seat (11) has at least one undercut face (13, 28) that acts in a direction transverse to the flank face (9). When the blade insert (4) is inserted, the undercut face (13, 28) interacts with at least one form-closure face (16, 27) formed on the blade insert, whereby a form closure taking effect transversely to the flank face (9) is established. The blade insert (4) is fastened to the main body (3) by means of at least one pin-shaped plug-in connection element (5), which is oriented perpendicular to the flank face (9) and which is arranged in aligned holes (18, 19) in the main body (3) and in the blade insert (4).

    • An I-beam section traveling from the apparatus in which it is fabricated is cut on the fly by a die set or shear which is moved with the I-beam. The cut is effected by a stepped blade having a leading cutting edge and a trailing cutting edge, the latter being in the same plane but laterally offset from the former. The cut proceeds at a 45.degree. angle to the plane of the web and flanges. The leading edge enters the I-beam at the middle of the web and cuts the remainder of the web and the lower flange. The trailing blade edge engages the margin of the upper flange and cuts through this flange and the remainder of the web. The cutting blade is mounted on a reciprocable upper shoe and the I-beam is fed through structure mounted on the lower shoe which has an opening for the I-beam to pass with considerable clearance. Inserts mounted on the lower shoe underlie the web and flanges of the I-beam to support the beam during the cut. Known apparatus may be used to accelerate the die set into synchronizm with the moving workpiece and to reciprocate the upper member for the cutting stroke.
