    • A belt driven mechanism which may be employed to transmit engine torque to an automotive electric rotary accessory such as an alternator. The belt driven mechanism is equipped with bearings disposed between a pulley around which a belt is wound and a torque output rotor. The belt driven mechanism also includes a coil spring mechanism having a length with a first and a second end portion to establish transmission of torque between the pulley and the rotor. Each of the first and second end portion has a plurality of points of attachment to a corresponding one of the pulley and the rotor, thereby distributing a mechanical load acting on the pulley or the rotor into fractions. This avoids local exertion of the load on the bearings, thereby prolonging the service life and ensuring the reliability of operation of the bearings.

    • In an air conditioning apparatus employing a heat pump system in which a cooling evaporator and a heating condenser are disposed inside the compartment. A compressor is provided with a gas injection port, a fixed throttle for reducing pressure of refrigerant on high pressure side in a refrigerating cycle to middle pressure, and a gas-liquid separator for separating the middle pressure refrigerant of which pressure is reduced by the fixed throttle. The gaseous refrigerant separated by the gas-liquid separator is introduced into the gas injection port. In a heating operation, the refrigerant circulates through the compressor, the condenser, the fixed throttle, the gas-liquid separator, an expansion valve, an outdoor heat exchanger, and the compressor as a closed circuit, while the gaseous refrigerant separated by the gas-liquid separator is injected into the compressor through the gas injection port. As a result, when the outside air temperature is low, the heating capacity is improved.

    • A battery power monitoring apparatus for use in an electric automobile is provided. The battery power monitoring apparatus determines the amount of available reserve electric power remaining in a storage battery based on electric power discharged from the storage battery to an electric motor and a battery characteristic stored in a memory, representing a relation between a voltage level at which a given level of current flows from the storage battery and the then discharged electric power. The battery characteristic is updated based on the latest detected voltage of the storage battery and current flowing from the storage battery. The battery power monitoring apparatus determines that charge polarization has occurred when a voltage level of the storage battery from which the given level of current flows is increased, and prohibits the updating of the battery characteristic. With this operation, the amount of available electric power is calculated correctly even under the influence of charge polarization.

    • A self-rotation blocking mechanism in a scroll compressor having a movable scroll member and fixed scroll member fixed to a casing. The mechanism is constructed of circumferentially spaced opposing pairs of pins 9 and 10, which are connected to an end plate 12 of the movable scroll member 2 and a faced end wall of the casing 4, respectively, and which are in a side-by-side contacting relationship. The circumferential arrangement of the pins is such that, at every angular position of the movable scroll member, there exists at least one pair of the pins which generates a force in a direction opposite to a self-rotating torque applied to the movable scroll member caused by the compression reaction force. A locally concentrated arrangement of the pairs of the pins for generating such a force can be employed at the angular position which produces a larger value of self-rotating torque. Furthermore, the diameters of the pins are such that one half of the sum of the diameters is equal to or smaller than the radius of the orbital movement of the movable scroll member.
