    • An echo cancelling system, in which a pseudo-echo is provided by producing an impulse response of an echo path, reversed in phase and then applied to a subtractor of the echo path to cancel an echo. A low level reference signal, such as random noise or an artificial random signal, is continuously applied to the echo path and successively delayed by a sampling period to obtain a plurality of delayed reference signals, which are multplied by the output of the subtactor to obtain a plurality of multiplied outputs. The multiplied outputs are integrated by integrators and then amplified by high gain amplifiers to be employed for producing the psuedo-echo. As a result of such construction of the adaptive control loop, the convergence time for cancellation is effectively improved.

    • A mechanical sealing device for use with a rotary shaft extending through stationary casings. In this sealing device, first and second stationary ring members are arranged in surrounding but concentric relation to the rotary shaft, with a resilient bellows interposed therebetween, and a rotatable ring member is fitted on the rotary shaft. The first ring member is affixed to one of the casings while the second ring member is urged against the rotatable ring member by means of the resilient bellows in sliding relation thereto. A plurality of radial passages are defined in the rotatable ring member, so that cooling medium may be fed in the radial passages for cooling the rotatable ring member rather than sprayed over the surface of the rotatable ring member. In addition, the rotatable ring member is formed with an annular lead-in or guide portion having inner and outer conical peripheral surfaces for smoothly admitting injected cooling medium in the radial passages provided in the rotatable ring member. A nozzle for injecting the cooling medium therethrough is directed into an entrance of the annular lead-in portion for the radial passages.

    • An echo cancelling system for multiplex circuits, in which an impulse response of an echo-path is obtained from signals at respective ends of the transmission path and the receiving path connected to the echo-path to produce an echo-path model, and in which a pseudo echo signal is then provided to subtract it from an echo signal of the echo-path thereby to cancel the echo signal. In accordance with this invention, adaptive echo-path models each for corresponding channel of the multiplex circuits are provided for storing impulse response signals within a holding time of an impulse response in the long distance multiplex telephone circuits, and an adaptive echo-path model for the common use of multiplex circuits is provided for storing, in a time-divisional manner according to the known queue control, (a) information within a flat delay time of the impulse response, (b) impulse response signals within the holding time of the impulse response and (c) information within a certain constant time after the impulse response. The adaptive echo-path model for the common use is activated if the level of a residual echo signal is higher than a predetermined value, and the adaptive echo-path model for each channel is activated if the level of a residual echo signal is smaller than the predetermined value.

    • An internal combustion engine with a turbocharger that can favorably prevent an exhaust gas purifying catalyst from being clogged with a manganese oxide contained in an exhaust gas is provided. The internal combustion engine includes a turbocharger that includes a turbine disposed in an exhaust passage, the turbine being operative by exhaust energy of the internal combustion engine; an upstream catalyst, disposed in the exhaust passage at a downstream side of the turbine, for purifying an exhaust gas; an exhaust bypass passage for bypassing the turbine; and a waste gate valve for opening or closing the exhaust bypass passage. The waste gate valve is controlled to be in an open state during performance of a fuel cut of the internal combustion engine.
