    • A check valve assembly has a valve seat for positioning in a passageway between a water supply and an outlet device such as a sprinkler head or a pipe section. A disc valve is located on the water supply side of the valve seat, and a separate actuator is movably mounted on the opposite side of the seat for movement between an operative position extending through the valve seat to hold the valve in the open position, and an inoperative, retracted position. The disc valve is moved by the actuator into the open position when the sprinkler head is located at the outlet. Release or removal of the actuator as a result of removal of the sprinkler head or other outlet device will allow fluid pressure at the fluid supply end of the passageway to urge the valve into the closed position.

    • A stacking and strapping apparatus is configured to stack a first load layer on a pallet, horizontally strap the load, stack a second load layer on the first load layer and horizontally strap the second load layer. The apparatus includes a frame, a sealing head operably mounted to the frame, a feed head operably mounted to the frame and a strap chute mounted to the frame. The strap chute is stationary and is fixedly mounted to the frame in a generally horizontal plane and has an opening therein for receiving the sealing head. The strap chute defines the boundaries of a vertical path for movement of the pallet, the first load layer and the second load layer. A draw plate is disposed above the strap chute. The draw plate is configured to receive the first load layer or the second load layer and to move between a loading position in which the first or second load layer is loaded onto the draw plate and a withdrawn position in which the draw plate moves to position the first load layer on the pallet or to position the second load layer on the first load layer. The draw plate is configured to move back to the loading position following transfer of the first load layer or the second load layer. A lift plate is disposed below the strap chute and draw plate. The lift plate is adapted to receive the pallet and to receive a load on the pallet. The lift plate moves downwardly to position the first load layer at the strap chute, moves up to receive the second load layer and moves downwardly again to position the second load layer at the strap chute.

    • An insulation strapping machine comprises a vertically reciprocable platen and horizontally reciprocable opposed pairs of compressors which are able to have their relative positions adjustably controlled such that the platen and compressors cooperate together so as to form or define a variably sized package cavity within which the variously different or different sized articles, packages, or materials to be strapped can be disposed for properly achieving a strapping or packaging operation. A vertically movable package stop is incorporated within the package cavity conveyor system so as to predeterminedly longitudinally center articles, packages, or materials of various different length dimensions within the package cavity, and each one of the package compressors can develop 10,000 pounds of compressive force so as to achieve a predetermined amount of compression with respect to certain insulation materials. Still further, the articles, packages, or materials may be strapped or packaged in accordance with different strapping modes, depending upon, for example, the particular packages, articles, or materials being strapped or packaged as well as the compression levels impressed upon such packages, articles, or materials, whereby failure of the packaged or strapped articles, packages, or materials is effectively prevented.

    • A retention system is provided for a surface mounted electrical connector on a printed circuit board. A dielectric connector housing is adapted for mounting on a surface of the printed circuit board. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing for engaging appropriate circuit traces on the printed circuit board. A retaining clip is mounted on the housing and includes a board mounting tab for solder connection to an appropriate ground trace on the surface of the printed circuit board. The tab mounting tab has an opening. A conductive shield is disposed about portions of the housing and includes a projection extending into the opening in the board mounting tab. Therefore, solder material engages the projection of the shield through the opening in the board mounting tab to thereby mechanically and electrically secure both the retaining clip and the shield to the printed circuit board.
