    • The present invention provides a system and method for ultrasound pulse shaping and output power adjustment using multiple drive pulses. The multiple drive pulses are width modulated to provide the required output signal power and wave-shape characteristics. Using multiple width-modulated pulses provides control over power output that is capable of being varied much more rapidly than using a conventional voltage modulated drive pulse. Additionally, the multiple drive pulses provide better control over unwanted harmonics than does a single drive pulse. These two advantages allow multiple width modulated pulses to increase the capabilities in ultrasonic imaging devices, thereby, allowing for rapid switching between imaging techniques having widely disparate power requirements so that composite diagnostic images may be constructed combining the diagnostic benefits the various imaging techniques have to offer.

    • In an ultrasound imaging system, line-to-line image distortion is reduced by estimating aperture shading caused by the presence of an occlusion in a test subject. A plurality of transmit beams are transmitted towards a subject using an ultrasound transmitter having an aperture (201). Each transmit beam is associated with a plurality of receive beams that are reflected by the subject. Receive beams are collected using a plurality of receive channels (203). For each receive channel, receive data is derived from one or more collected receive beams (204), and a sum of the absolute values of the receive data is generated (205). The sums of the absolute values are smoothed and normalized for the set of receive channels (207), so as to generate an estimate for a shaded aperture function that characterizes aperture shading caused by the occlusion. The shaded aperture function is utilized as a receive apodization function to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the receive data (209). The centroid of the shaded aperture function is also utilized to align the receive steering and focusing to the transmit beam steering effects of the occlusion.

    • A customized graphical user interface and method, system, and computer program product for providing the graphical user interface and for automating computer maintenance, security, and communication functions is provided. In one embodiment, the data processing system receives user login information and retrieves a user profile. Based on the user profile, a customized user interface is presented to the user. Only applications and information needed by the user to perform an enterprise defined function are presented to the user in the user interface, thereby eliminating the need for human input in these automated areas, thereby freeing an inexperienced user from wasting time trying to find applications and data needed to perform the user's work function. Furthermore, computer maintenance, communications, and security functions are performed with minimal user interaction, if any, further increasing the efficiency of the user in performing work functions and decreasing the training requirements for the user.

    • A substantially pre-assembled modular log home provides a banding support defined by a front, a rear, and a pair of side support members, and a plurality of floor joists secured to the support members. A sub-floor is secured to the banding support. The log home is made from stacked structural members that form a front, a rear, and a pair of side-walls that are each secured to the sub-floor. Each structural member has a rectangular elongate body. A pair of projections are disposed along the top surface of each member. A pair of grooves extend along the bottom surface of each member. The pair of grooves on a lower member engage the pair of projections of a vertically adjacent structural member to align two members in the stack. Fasteners secure the members together in each stack. A roof, having an assembly of rafters, is secured to the top of the log home.

    • A salvage device facilitates detaching a plurality of components soldered to a plurality of modules used in printed circuit board assemblies. In one embodiment, a salvage device has a component receptacle with a component receiver that is adapted to hold a plurality of detached components. The salvage device also has a module holder attached to the component receptacle. In operation, the module holder suspends a plurality of modules over the component receiver to space the components attached to the modules apart from the component receiver. The salvage device is then placed in an oven to melt the solder contacts that bond the components to the modules. After the solder contacts reach a molten state, the components are preferably separated from the module by vibrating the components and the modules to break the surface tension of the molten solder. The components then fall into the component receiver and are removed from the oven.
