    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight structure of an joint prosthesis, to provide a design of the joint prosthesis with multi-structure elements which can use a potentially available bearing surface of a joint more effectively, and to provide the joint prosthesis with multi-structure elements which has head members formed in eccentric alignment to shank/body elements.
      SOLUTION: A kit for assembly of a modular joint prosthesis includes at least two shank/body elements sized for insertion into the shank of the bone and at least two head members sized to replace one bearing surface of the joint. Each shank/body element has a collar that has a shallow width and a circular plan view and that is formed to overhang a resected level of the bone. The collar has a male taper on its side wall. Each head member has a first geometric axis therethrough and defines a part spherical cavity with a skirt extending about the cavity. The skirt provides a female taper for receiving and providing a mechanical connection with the male taper on the side wall of each collar. A second axis extends through the skirt. The first axis and second axis may be coincident or offset from one another.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reamer for milling bone capable of receiving input rotary power from various angle directions and capable of arranging the reamer for milling bone in various angle directions with respect to input rotary power.
      SOLUTION: A medical instrument and procedure are adapted to mill bone along a curve and with respect to at least two angles of orientation with respect to an input source of rotary motion. Particularly, the medical instrument is a bone milling apparatus that is configured to mill bone along a predetermined curved path or curve. The bone milling apparatus 10 includes a reamer 50 that is rotatable about a curved shaft which is retained by a frame 12. The shaft has a predetermined curve that corresponds to a desired milling curve. The reamer 50 is composed of a plurality of interconnected segments, with each segment having cutting surfaces such that each segment is a cutter. The reamer 50 is thus flexible with respect to the interconnection between the individual segments.
