    • A PAL color video signal which is reproduced in a special mode, such as a slow, still or fast-forward or reverse mode is re-arranged in order to recover the standard signal sequence of the PAL color television system. In the case of the luminance signal component, two adjacent lines of reproduced video signals are mixed in order to avoid vertical shifting of the reproduced image if the numbers of a reproduced field and a reference field are different. In the case of the chrominance signal component, a phase-inversion and/or a signal delay of 1H interval are carried out in order to coincide the chrominance phase sequence of the reproduced PAL color signal with the sub-carrier phase sequence which is standard for the PAL color television system. The need for a phase-inversion and/or a signal delay is determined on the basis of an examination of a reproduced color field and a reference color field.

    • In a television reproduction system in which recorded video for one field, either odd or even, is repeatedly scanned, such as for still or slow motion reproduction, and is displayed with a locally generated synchronizing signal which produces interlaced scanning having both odd and even fields on a television screen, video from adjacent lines is averaged when the recorded field being scanned is an odd or even field and the field defined by the synchronizing signal is the opposite type. When the recorded video is a color video signal, the luminance and chrominance components of the video signal are separately averaged, the chrominance component is inverted in dependence on the relationship between the phase of the color subcarrier of the recorded line being reproduced and the phase of the color subcarrier of the locally generated synchronizing signal.

    • An apparatus for reading a disc-shaped record carrier on which per track circumference one picture of a color television signal is recorded. The signal being read is converted to a standard PAL color television signal. The apparatus comprising a command device which by applying command signals to control means can produce a jumpwise radial change in the scanning position on the record carrier, so as to enable the scanning sequence of the recorded pictures to be changed. In order to maintain a standard PAL color television signal in the case of a changed scanning sequence, the apparatus comprises a correction device for the chrominance signal. This correction device is controlled by the command device and comprises a mixing circuit for mixing the chrominance signal with a reference signal of twice the chrominance subcarrier frequency during time intervals prescribed by the command device, and phase correction means for introducing a phase shift of 0.degree., 90.degree., 180.degree., or 270.degree. in the chrominance signal in accordance with a pattern defined by the command device.

    • An apparatus and method for intra-predicting an image are provided.     • A color signal processor in which a color subcarrier is multiplied with either a signal harmonic or a phase shifted harmonic of a low frequency chrominance signal, depending on whether the R-Y axis of the chrominance signal is inverted. Band pass filtering extracts an arithmetic carrier signal resulting from the multiplication. The low frequency chrominance signal is multiplied by the extracted arithmetic carrier, and band pass filtering removes both upper and lower side band components generated in accordance with the low frequency chrominance signal multiplication. Various configurations of the above invention eliminate the need for a circuit inverting the R-Y axis, simplifying the structure of color signal processors and related devices. In addition, since no resonating circuit is used, the invention can be effectively implemented in an integrated circuit.
