The transmitting-side device 101 generates intermediate data by preprocessing RAW data, generates three-plane color data by processing synchronization of the intermediate data, and outputs placement information for specifying pixel positions corresponding to the three-plane color data and the intermediate data. The receiving-side device 102 restores the intermediate data using the three-plane color data and the placement information from the transmitting-side device 101, and generates the three-plane color data from the restored intermediate data.

    • An all-pass filter provides inversion of a chrominance component in a composite signal without separating the chrominance component from the composite signal, to provide for example, synthesizing composite video from a previous line of video. The filter includes an input for receiving the composite signal along a subsequent signal path, and the application of selected, preferably symmetrical weighting factors to selected locations along the signal path. The path includes selected delay means coupled to define a filter output via summing means. The latter provides the composite signal with inverted chrominance without an objectionable change in the relative phase and amplitude of the luminance components relative to the inverted chrominance.

The original signal normally exhibits an ordered color field sequence but is subject to anomalous variations from time to time which causes anomalous variation of the chrominance-burst phase relationship of the video output signal. A detector, responsive to a change of a parameter of the ordered sequence of the video input signal, supplies an enabling signal to an inverter circuit which inverts the phase of the burst component of the video output signal whereby the chrominance-burst phase relationship of each field of the video output signal remains unaltered in the presence of said anomalous variations of the ordered sequence of the video input signal.

    • Apparatus is disclosed for producing a full four field NTSC color code sequence of color video information in a manner whereby a continuous nonjittering color video image can be displayed by repeatedly reproducing a recorded two field sequence of color video information. The apparatus is useful in a recording machine which samples the information signal at an odd multiple of the subcarrier frequency and converts the samples to a number of digital data streams and also removes and reinserts horizontal synchronization digital words in the digital component data streams, wherein the horizontal synchronization words are synchronized with the subcarrier. A phase continuous clock signal is used to time the processing of the repetitively reproduced two field sequence of video information. Since the phase of the subcarrier alternates on the second reproducing of a two field sequence, for example, the synchronization word would be misplaced on the second reproduction and would cause a jittering of the video display in the absence of the apparatus of the present invention.

    • In a still frame playback mode, a video disc player reproduces a carrier signal which is frequency modulated in accordance with a composite video signal representative of successive repetitions of two interlaced image fields constituting a single image frame and comprising a luminance signal component, a chrominance signal component and synchronizing information, including a color burst. An FM demodulator develops a composite video signal, which is characterized by a 180.degree. phase discontinuity in the chrominance signal component between the frame end and the succeeding frame start. A first inverter circuit inverts the phase of the color burst every other image frame piror to the processing of the composite video signal output in time base correction and drop-out compensation circuits. The corrected output is supplied to a second inverting stage where the phase of the chrominance signal component, exclusive of the color burst, is inverted every other image frame, to provide an output composite video signal conforming to the NTSC format.
