摘要： A diode pumped laser is wavelength converted using an intracavity non-linear optical crystal (8), and the wavelength converted output (9) is passively stabilized by a short cavity using unpolarized laser output. End pumping limits the number of transverse cavity modes, and intracavity etalon effects may be achieved by additional coatings (5') deposited upon the laser or non-linear crystals themselves, further reducing the longitudinal mode spectrum. Wavelength converted output is enhanced by minimizing backward conversion in a linear cavity, or by folding the cavity via an angled face of the non-linear or the laser crystal (1).

摘要： An optical resonator supporting two sets of simultaneously co-existent oscillation modes (30 and 31), having polarizations orthogonal to each other. Mode control elements (28 and 29), such as apertures and phase elements, are introduced into the resonato to allow only preferred modes to exist. The placement and orientation of the sets are designed such that the high intensity zones of one set fall on the nodes or low intensity zones of the other set in an interlaced pattern. Thus, in a laser resonator, better utilization of the gain medium (24) is achieved and the beam quality and brightness over multimode lasing are improved. This configuration improves the performance of high Fresnel number resonators, in both pulsed and continuous lasers, for applications such as scribing, drilling, cutting, target designation and rangefinding. An application of the intra-cavity coherent summation of orthogonally polarized modes is described, whereby azimuthally or radially polarized beams may be obtained.

摘要： An F2 laser having an etalon-based line narrowing output coupler (164) and a technique for tuning the laser. The etalon based output coupler (165A, 165B) is adjusted to preferentially reflect a percentage (about 17 %) of light at or near the spectral maximum of one of the primary F2 spectral lines and to not reflect light at the other primary F2 spectral line. Thus, a selected range of the selected line is preferentially amplified in the gain medium and the other line is transmitted out of the laser cavity and, therefore, receives no amplification and is suppressed. The result is substantial narrowing in the preferred embodiment of the 157.630 nm line and effective suppression of the 157.523 nm line. Substantial improvement in line narrowing of 157.630 nm line results from a wavelength selective properties of etalon based line-narrowing output coupler.
