    • Apparatus is described for handling sheets, such as bank notes or other value sheets. An inserted note is transported to an intermediate position in which the note can either be rejected or encashed without affecting notes already stored on a temporary storage drum (154) or the note can be stored on the temporary storage drum from the intermediate position. The intermediate position may be in an output path of the apparatus and the note reversed on to the drum, the intermediate position may be a partially stored position of the note on the drum, from which the note can be discharged without discharging any additional notes already stored on the drum. A selectable transmission coupling (176) is used to rotate the drum from a common drive source (408) in one direction for storing successive notes as a bundle, and in a reverse direction of discharging the bundle. Guides are described for controlling movement of the sheets, and an actuator is described for avoiding the effect of vibration.

    • A sheet stripping device (91), especially for use at the fuser station (48) of a copier (8), comprises a plurality of flexible stripper fingers (92, 110) arranged with their end portions against a fuser roll surface (49) to initiate separation of a fused copy sheet (32). The stripper fingers each have a raised edge portion (104) which provides a gradually sloping rigid support to guide the fused copy sheet away from the stripper finger surface. The raised edge portion may be formed by a triangular cut-out portion bent at right angles to the main portion (100) of the finger (see Fig. 4). Alternatively, the raised edge portions may be formed by flexing the fingers into a U-shaped, winged configuration (see Fig. 7).

    • A method of removing a sheet (42) from the drum (30) of a facsimile transceiver unit wherein a drum gripper bar (30) grips an edge of a sheet (42) to be scanned during system operation. On termination of operation, the drum (30) direction is reversed allowing the beam strength of the scanned sheet (42) to lift the free edge (50) of the sheet off the drum (30). The sheet is then picked off by a suitable member (52) and directed out of the facsimile transceiver unit. At the same time, the gripper bar (32) is opened releasing the sheet for easy operator removal. In a preferred method, the sheet (42) is jogged by the raised gripper bar (32) to ensure release of the sheet from the facsimile transceiver unit.

    • A sheet transport assembly (150) is provided for transporting a sheet along a process unit configured for applying a process to the sheet. The sheet transport assembly comprises: a conveying unit (160) comprising a transport belt (11) and a deflection element (13c). The transport belt is configured for advancing the sheet in a transport direction along the process unit to the deflection element, the sheet being placed with a contact side on the belt and a process side towards the process unit. The deflection element is arranged in contact with the transport belt to deflect the transport belt downstream in the transport direction relative to the process unit. The sheet transport assembly further comprises a separating unit (300) for separating the sheet from the transport belt. The separating unit is connected to an air supply source. The separating unit comprises a restrain blowing device (200) arranged for directing a restrain air flow onto the process side of the sheet in a restrain area for urging the sheet towards the transport belt proximate to the deflection element. The separating unit further comprises a lifting blowing (100) device arranged for directing a lifting air flow onto the contact side of the sheet in a lifting area for lifting the sheet from the transport belt. The lifting area is arranged extending only over a middle portion of a width of the sheet, the width being a dimension of the sheet in a lateral direction perpendicular to the transport direction.
