    • The present invention provides non-invasive methods for determining the beta cell mass in the pancreas of a subject by administering to the subject an effective amount of a vesicular monoamine transporter type 2 (VMAT2)-specific radioligand; obtaining at least one computerized image of at least a portion of the pancreas of the subject; and quantitatively analyzing the computerized image in order to determine the beta cell mass in the pancreas of the subject. The present invention additionally provides methods for diagnosing a metabolic neuroendocrine disorder in a subject including insulinoma, diabetes and preclinical diabetes, as well as methods for determining the efficacy of treatment for a metabolic disorder. The present invention further provides methods for assessing the prognosis of a subject at risk for developing diabetes, and methods for managing the treatment or prevention of diabetes. The present invention also provides kits for use in determining the beta cell mass in the pancreas of a subject, as well as diagnosing metabolic or neuroendocrine disorders in a subject.

    • A free-floating mesh protective glove is disclosed. The glove has palm-side inner and outer fabric layers joined along their peripheries, and a top-side outer fabric layer attached to the palm-side layers along their peripheries, except in a cuff region. Protection against stabbing and cutting is provided by two metallic-meshes layers shaped to fit inside the palm-side layers and held in place by being sandwiched between, but not attached to, them. The metal meshes slide past each other when the glove is clenched, improving flexibility and reducing crinkling. The woven mesh layers have stainless steel fibers with a diameter of 0.2 mm or less and apertures of 0.45 mm or less. The meshes are layered together with a warp-fiber direction in one mesh oriented at an angle of approximately 22.5 degrees with respect to the warp-fiber direction of the adjacent mesh.

    • A method and a corresponding system for assisting the passage of an entity (10) through successive zones (Zn to Z1) to a destination (40) are provided. The method includes the steps of: associating an identifier with the entity; creating a plurality of required incidents for the entity, each required incident having a place reference and a time reference associated with it, the required incidents including a final incident for which the place reference is the destination and the time reference is a predetermined time; at intervals, detecting the presence of the entity in one of said zones and the time of said presence, thereby generating a match; registering correspondences between the matches thus-generated and said required incidents; and generating an alert for the entity when the time reference for a required incident is reached and that incident does not have a corresponding match. The method operates on a pull system whereby earlier events are driven by the requirements of future events. The method allows preventative action to be taken before delays occur and can adjust to deal with variations in local conditions. A preferred embodiment is implemented in a transport hub, where the entities may be passengers, crew or luggage.
