    • The invention involves a novel method and structure for utilizing homeotropic vertically aligned nematic liquid crystal cells in the production of high contrast microdisplays. Two circular polarizers are used in order to propagate circularly polarized, rather than planar polarized, light through a liquid crystal cell. The use of circularly polarized light eliminates the liquid crystal director alignment requirements for the transmittance of light necessary for planar polarized light. With no director alignment requirement, it is possible to use perfectly homeotropic vertically aligned nematic cells irrespective of domain size and shape because fringing field induced director tilt will not decrease the transmittance of the liquid crystal cell.

    • An automated lenticular photographic system includes an interface that permits a user to upload image files and image processing and printing equipment that is in communication with the interface for receiving the uploaded image files and processing the uploaded image files to create an interlaced print image file that is used to produce an interlaced print sheet containing interlaced print images. A pair of registration marks is formed on the interlaced print sheet outside of borders of the interlaced print images. The system also includes a processing station where the interlaced print sheet is aligned with a lenticular lens sheet with a registration system that detects whether the lenticular lens sheet is off-centered and skewed relative to the interlaced print sheet. The system also includes means for controllably adjusting the position of the lenticular lens sheet relative to the interlaced print sheet until proper registration between the lenticular lens sheet and the interlaced print sheet is achieved. The lenticular lens sheet is at least selectively joined to the interlaced print sheet to provide a lenticular product that can be delivered back to the user.

    • Embodiments of the present disclosure include medical devices and methods including a medical device including: an elongate core element, and a generally tubular torsion element surrounding the core element and capable of transmitting torque along its length. The torsion element has a spiral incision that has a proximal end and a distal end. The spiral incision forms a helically coiled strip between the proximal and distal ends of the spiral incision. The helically coiled strip varies in width from the proximal end of the spiral incision to the distal end of the spiral incision and has a narrowest portion. The helically coiled strip bows radially outward at the narrowest portion when the helically coiled strip in the torsion element is unwound.
