    • A device for controlling ignition timing in an internal combustion engine comprises a compression sensor disposed in the vicinity of the combustion chamber of each cylinder. Acceleration and other transient conditions of the engine driving conditions are detected on the basis of the output of the pressure sensor. When a transient condition is detected, the target maximum combustion angle is altered by a prescribed amount in the direction of retarding the ignition timing and the ignition timing of the next cylinder to fire is compensated by an amount which is less than the prescribed amount. As the transient conditions are directly detected from the state of combustion, the transient response is improved, and as the compensation is carried out stepwise, the drivability is improved.

    • A yarn piecing method in an open-end spinning machine comprises stopping a yarn piecing machine in front of a spinning unit suffering a yarn breakage, reversing a package with a rewinding roller to rewind a yarn therefrom, cutting off the yarn to provide a yarn end having a predetermined length, moving the yarn end to a position upwardly of an outlet of a withdrawal tube in the spinning unit, reversing the rewinding roller again to feed the yarn end through the withdrawal tube to a fiber collecting surface of a spinning rotor in the spinning unit, supplying a sliver with a feed roller into the spinning unit, piecing the yarn end to the sliver on the fiber collecting surface, continuously drawing a pieced yarn from the spinning rotor, and moving the pieced yarn to a position between a presser roller and a draw-off roller which are being rotated while drawing the pieced yarn from the spinning rotor. The presser roller and the draw-off roller are mounted on the open-end spinning machine and adjustable in speed dependent on the yarn number count used for yarn winding operation during a yarn piecing process.

    • An emergency spool release for use with a seat belt retractor mechanism is shown wherein the seat belt mechanism includes a spool for storing a belt which restrains the passenger of a vehicle during an emergency. The belt is urged into a retracted position by spring means while the protracted position of the belt is restrained in an emergency by the automatic engagement of a locking pawl against ratchet teeth found on the periphery of the spool. The automatic engagement is accomplished by an inertia locking system. In some situations, the automatic inertia locking system does not disengage thereby making it difficult to accomplish further protraction of the seat belt in a post emergency situation. The locking pawl in the seat belt mechanism of this invention is capable of a rotational motion to engage the ratchet teeth under the urging of the inertia locking device. It is also capable of a transverse motion under the urging of a manual unlocking device for post emergency release. Transverse motion of the locking pawl is accomplished by a lever which is attached to the locking pawl and spring biased into the automatic position. Actuation of a lever either manually or by a second lever mechanism causes the transverse motion of the locking pawl to unlock the seat belt mechanism in the post emergency condition.

    • An inertia-responsive vehicle seat back latch mechanism for a vehicle seat assembly having a seat back pivotally supported for forwardly tilting movement, wherein said latch mechanism includes a seat back stop for cooperating with an inertia-responsive member to prevent forward tilting of said seat back when said inertia-responsive member is in its seat back locking position. The inertia-responsive member is adapted for moving into the seat back locking position during a vehicle deceleration. The latch mechanism further includes a device for maintaining said inertia-responsive member in its seat back locking position subsequent to said vehicle deceleration. The seat back latch mechanism may also include a device for releasing said seat back from its locking position subsequent to said vehicle deceleration.
