摘要： Isoparaffin-olefin alkylation is provided for contacting fluid with granular solids in a plurality of packed beds in series. Fluid effluent from each bed may be separated into two portions, one of which is recycled to the inlet to that bed and the other of which passes to the inlet of the next bed in the series. Control of the amount and temperature of the recycled fluid permits obtaining similar advantages to those stirred slurry chemical reactors with simplified equipment and handling.

摘要： Suitable pitch is formed into a filament continuously and upward by various means located at the bottom of a vessel containing a hot buoyant liquid. The liquid buoys up the fragile filament as it ascends the vessel from a lower region held at one temperature to an upper region where the temperature is about 450.degree.-700.degree.C. The filament emerges upward out of the liquid to move further through a still higher temperature (>900.degree.C) zone which upon leaving the previously formed pitch is a carbon filament. The liquid can be a blend of suitable molten inorganic salts or a molten inorganic oxide.

摘要： Testing apparatus and method for use in evaluating thermal stability of quenching oil wherein a relatively small quantity of the oil contacts a metallic heating element maintained at a temperature between about 1000.degree.-1500.degree.F. The contacting oil comes from a relatively large amount of oil and just prior to contact it is at a temperature lower than the flash point of the oil. Operation is continuous and substantially compresses testing time. Following the testing an oil sample can be chemically tested to determine its degree of degradation which is an indication of its thermal stability.

The circuit produces an alarm whenever the difference between the actual flowrate and the demand flowrate is greater than 6%, or 10%. The alarm is inhibited until after 45 seconds subsequent to startup of the blending system for which the said liquid serves as one component.

摘要： A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst composition, useful for paraffin-olefin alkylation, can comprise a three dimensional crystalline zeolite molecular sieve having a pore size large enough to adsorb 2,2,3-trimethylpentane and having a composition expressed in terms of mole ratios of oxides asa(I.sub.2 O):b(IIO):c(III.sub.2/3 O):d(IV.sub.1/2 O)Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :eSiO.sub.2wherein I represents a monovalent metal cation; II represents a divalent metal cation; III represents a trivalent metal cation; IV represents a tetravalent cation; a has a value of from zero to 0.15; b has a value of from zero to 0.75; c and d each have values of from zero to 1; e has a value of from 2 to 20; with the proviso that when e has a value of from 2 to 3, the value of ((b+c)=0.75 to 1 and d=0; and with the proviso that when e has a value of > 3 to 4, the value of (b+c+d)=0.6 to 1.0; and with the further proviso that when e has a value of > 4 to 20, the value of (b+c+d)=0.25 to 1.0. In one embodiment said zeolite contains less than about 60 percent of its maximum OH exhibiting infrared absorption in the region of 3480 to 3670 cm..sup.-1 ; however in a slurry-reaction process the preferred catalysts have been activated at a temperature in the range of 400.degree.-500.degree. C. and contain about said maximum OH absorption. In the above catalyst, protons and/or ammoniumions can be present to preserve electronic equivalency. The degree of conversion of olefins and paraffins to saturated products can be increased by incorporation into the catalyst of a halide adjuvant containing bromine, chlorine or fluorine. One preferred catalyst can be represented, by the above formula as0.1(I.sub.2 O):0.7(III.sub.2/3 O):Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :4.7SiO.sub.2where I is Na.sup.+ and III is a trivalent rare earth metal, such as Ce.sup.+3. More precisely, this catalyst can be represented as 0.1(Na.sub.2 O):0.2(H.sub.2 O):0.7(III.sub.2/3 O):Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :4.7SiO.sub.2.

摘要： Synthetic thermoplastic polymer fibers are prepared by extruding a foamed fibrillated sheet of a normally solid synthetic thermoplastic polymer, attenuating the molten foamed sheet as it is extruded and applying either a cutting and/or a shearing action to the solid attenuated sheet to cause it to break down into short fibers containing numerous fibrils. The polymer is polypropylene, polyethylene or a mixture of polystyrene and polypropylene or polyethylene in which the mixture contains more than 40 weight percent of the polyolefin. These short fibers can be blended with natural pulp. The resulting blend can be wet laid to form a coarse paper and then formed into a final paper product by application of heat and pressure. The resulting paper has certain superior properties.
