    • A heat-operated refrigerator heated by a gas burner and a heating flue associated therewith is disposed in a space having an apertured exterior side wall. The heating flue and burner form parts of a sealed combustion system which includes a first conduit for supplying all of the combustion supporting air to the burner to form a combustible gas mixture with gas supplied thereto and a second conduit for withdrawing all of the flue gases from the upper end of the flue. The ends of the first and second conduits removed from the burner and flue, respectively, are open and terminate in the apertured side wall, the open end of the first conduit serving as an inlet for ambient air and the open end of the second conduit serving as an outlet for flue gases. The flue gas outlet is disposed above the air inlet. The air inlet and flue gas outlet have the same cross-sectional areas and are flush with the outer surface of the exterior wall.

    • An improved wall thimble as part of a venting apparatus for a heating appliance. Dual functionality is provided in a single wall thimble device by having a vent path for exhausting combustion by-products, and a separate air inlet path to draw in combustion air for use by the heating appliance. The wall thimble is preferably formed as a two-cylindrical part housing such that a first portion can be inserted into a second portion. When a smaller exhaust pipe is routed through the two-part housing, an annular region is formed between the exhaust pipe and the walls of the housing. A first air vent is formed in the first portion to draw combustion air into the annular region from outside. A second air vent is formed in the second portion to route the combustion air from the annular region out through the second air vent to be coupled with the combustion air inlet. A baffle is disposed in the first portion to preheat the combustion air. A duct assembly with an adjustable extension may be coupled to the second air vent to provide a below-grade installation.

Dual functionality is provided in a single wall thimble device by having a vent path for exhausting combustion by-products, and a separate air inlet path to draw in outside combustion air for use by the heating appliance. The wall thimble is formed as a two-part housing such that a first cylindrical portion can be inserted into a second cylindrical portion. When a smaller diameter exhaust pipe is routed through the cylindrical portions, an annular region is formed between the exhaust pipe and the cylindrical portions. A first air vent is formed in the first cylindrical portion to draw combustion air into the annular region from outside. A second air vent is formed in the second cylindrical portion to route the combustion air from the annular region to an opening in the housing where a combustion air inlet pipe is connected.
