    • In a method and system for low-distortion power amplification, an error signal is generated by comparing a feedback signal obtained from an amplified output signal of a power switching stage with one of an input pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal from a PWM signal generator and a corrected PWM signal at an input terminal of the power switching stage. Each pulse of the input PWM signal is then corrected to result in the corrected PWM signal that is provided to the power switching stage. Each pulse of the input PWM signal is corrected by adjusting the phase thereof such that each pulse of the input PWM signal has a center that forms a predetermined time difference with a center of a corresponding pulse of the corrected PWM signal, and by adjusting the width thereof according to the error signal.

    • A novel circuit that generates direct audio from a power supply that uses no power amplifier and that can provide full isolation to any impedance load. It has no power amplifier output stage and has a zero signal-to-noise ratio when there is no signal input because the circuit is designed with MOSFETS that do not conduct unless there is a signal input. The circuit includes an input rectifier for rectifying an input audio signal, a pulse width modulator for producing a signal modulated by the rectified audio signal, a power amplification stage for amplifying the pulse width modulated signal, a positive/negative rectifier pair for positively and negatively rectifying the amplified pulse width modulated signal, a demodulator for demodulating the positively and negatively rectified signal in order to generate a power amplified audio signal, and a switching network for directing the positively rectified signal to the demodulator in response to the signal polarity detector sensing a first polarity of the input audio signal, and for directing the negatively rectified signal to the demodulator in response to the signal polarity detector sensing a second polarity of the input audio signal. A low power embodiment uses a single power supply to bias push-pull transistors, a medium power embodiment uses positive and negative rails individually to bias the push-pull transistors, and a high power embodiment uses the additive sum of the positive and negative rails to bias the push-pull transistors.

    • A digital amplifier having an input for receiving an input signal employs an oscillator for producing a reference pulse signal and a sawtooth signal. A first generating circuit coupled to the oscillator is responsive to the reference pulse signal for producing a first pulse signal of a first polarity. A second generating circuit coupled to the first generating circuit is responsive to said first pulse signal for producing a second pulse signal of a polarity opposite the first polarity. A comparator responsively coupled to the input and said oscillator compares the input signal and the sawtooth signal and produces a comparator output signal operable between first and second states, for toggling the comparator output signal between the first and second states each time the input signal equals the sawtooth signal. The comparator output is maintained in the first or second state when the input signal exceeds the sawtooth signal. A pulse insertion circuit responsively coupled to the comparator and the first and second generating circuits produces an insertion signal during intervals when the comparator output is maintained in either of the first or second states.

    • Systems and methods for amplifying an RF input signal include employing a moderately power efficient wide bandwidth device, such as an AB-type amplifier, to amplify the power residing in the high frequency components of the input signal, and a highly power efficient narrow bandwidth device, such as a synchronous buck DC/DC converter, to amplify the power residing in the low frequency components of the input signal. The amplified low frequency components and high frequency components are then combined to produce an amplified replica of the RF input signal. A positive feedback loop is provided between the output of the AB-type amplifier and the input of the DC/DC converter to provide stability to the amplified RF signal. A negative feedback loop is provided between the output of the DC/DC converter and the input of the AB-type amplifier to minimize interference introduced by the DC/DC converter.

    • A switching output power stage, including a power switching device for the supply line and a complementary power switching device for the ground rail driven in phase opposition by a pulse width modulated (PWM) drive signal, is provided with sensors detecting a substantial turn-off state of each of the two power switching devices and generating a pair of logic signals.
