    • Microbiological control in water systems is achieved with an amount,of 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin that is less than the amount of N,N′-bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin required to achieve the same degree of microbiological control. The methods of combating Escherichia coli and/or Enterococcus faecium in an aqueous medium, and biofilms such as formed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa on surfaces contacted by the aqueous medium, involve introducing into the medium a biocidally effective amount of 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin. A microbiological control agent for use in water in accordance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations is purveyed in containers of a water control agent comprising 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin, which containers bear a label having thereon dosage levels pursuant to requirements promulgated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is used or purveyed either as a product having a large average particle size (e.g., 175 microns or more) or in the form of a compacted product. The compacted product can be formed without using a binder where the average particle size of the 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is about 175 microns or more. Alternatively, the compacted product can be formed using a micronized synthetic polyolefin-based hydrocarbon wax and/or a micronized synthetic polyfluorocarbon wax as a binder, provided the wax is compatible with the 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin. In this case, the average particle size can be in the range of about 20-600 microns. Similarly, the compacted product can be a product formed from 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin having an average particle size of at least 175 microns, using an amount of a saturated, normally solid, fatty amide as the binder.

    • A method for luring animals, repelling animals and training animals and a product used therewith comprising microporous beads having animal attractant scents, animal repellant scents and animal training scents, respectively, imbibed within the beads. The beads with the animal attractant scents are configured to release the animal attractant scents in order to attract a predetermined animal. Likewise, the beads with the animal repellant scents are configured to release the animal repellant scents in order to repel a predetermined animal. Similarly, the beads with the animal training scents are placed onto a predetermined location and a predetermined animal is trained to perform a predetermined sequence using the beads.

    • An improved anti-corrosive material used to protect buried conduits from corrosion. The anti-corrosive material is comprised of a conduit contacting layer of polyolefin having the anti-corrosive agents impregnated therein. The preferred embodiment of the material is a multi-layered co-extruded, calendered, or laminated polyolefin. The material has an outer layer, or environment contacting layer, preferably comprised of a low density polyethylene having characteristically strong tensile strength and elongation properties to provide conventional protection from soil, water, air, or other potentially damaging elements. The material has a center layer preferably comprised of a high density polyethylene having superior tensile strength to provide a high density barrier between the outer layer and an inner layer. The inner layer, or conduit contacting layer, is preferably comprised of a low density polyethylene impregnated with one or more antimicrobial additives. The antimicrobial additives are incorporated into and dispersed throughout the conduit contacting layer for killing corrosion-inducing bacteria on the surface of the conduit. The antimicrobial additives are able to migrate through the low density polymer matrix but the rate of migration of the biocide is considerably slowed through the high density polymer. Thus, the antimicrobial agents are substantially prevented from escaping into the surrounding environment, but rather, are trapped within a “protection zone” immediately adjacent the conduit surface to provide extended protection against corrosion.

    • A topical composition with silicone oil emulsified in water. The topical composition may be made by diluting a concentrated silicone oil-in-water emulsion with water. The silicone oil of the topical composition and of the concentrated silicone oil-in-water emulsion is suspended in the water by one or more non-ionic surfactants. A combination of non-ionic surfactants may be employed. The topical composition may also include a blend of preservatives, which may be selected to have a synergistic effect. The silicone oil constitutes about 35% of the weight of the concentrated silicone oil-in-water emulsion. The non-ionic surfactant or surfactants make up about 3.5% of the weight of the concentrated oil-in-water emulsion. The diluted topical composition may contain silicone oil in amounts of about 0.1 to about 35%, preferably less than 3% down to about 1%, and more preferably about 1 to about 2% of the weight of the topical composition. The invention also includes wipe sheets wetted or impregnated with the topical composition. The topical composition can be applied to skin by way of a wet wipe, by spraying, or by rubbing into the skin.
