    • One or more techniques provide majority detection in error recovery. Accordingly, a device retries reading an ECC codeword having one or more bits for a plurality of retries, and stores each retry. The device (“hard” majority detection) votes on a value of each bit of the codeword based on a majority of corresponding retry values in the plurality of corresponding retries. Also, the device (“soft” majority detection) may determine reliability information for a value of each bit of the codeword based on a reoccurrence ratio of corresponding retry values in the plurality of retries. The device may declare erasures based on the reliability information and a (dynamically adjusted) threshold of uncertainty, e.g., where an “uncertain” bit based on the threshold or any symbol with an “uncertain” bit is declared as an erasure.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided for improved iterative error-erasure decoding. A signal is decoded by obtaining a plurality of symbols associated with the signal and one or more corresponding reliability values; generating at least one erasure list comprised of L symbols and at least one shortened erasure list comprised of L′ symbols, where L′ is less than L; and constructing an erasure set by taking erasures from at least one of the erasure list and the shortened erasure list. A signal is also processed by generating one or more reliability values using a soft-output detector; generating an erasure list of symbols by comparing the reliability values to at least one reliability threshold value (or by sorting); and performing error erasure decoding using the erasure list. The size of the erasure list can optionally be adjusted using feedback information.

    • It is proposed a method of decoding a set of symbols to be decoded, several data blocks representative of the set of symbols to be decoded being received by a decoding node of a communications network. The data blocks are encoded by means of an error correction code enabling a decoding by erasure. The decoding node performs the following steps: a first selecting step of selecting at least one of the data blocks, a first determining step of determining first erasures, a checking step of checking whether the number of the first erasures is below a given threshold. In the event of positive determining, the decoding node performs a first decoding step of decoding by erasure of the set of symbols to be decoded. If not it performs a second selecting step of selecting at least one of the data blocks, a second determining step of determining second erasures, and a second decoding step of decoding by erasure of the set of symbols to be decoded from the second erasures.
