    • A hydrogen treatment facility for treating hydrogen without using a power source is disposed outside a reactor containment vessel and in an upper portion of a reactor building. A hydrogen detector detecting hydrogen in the reactor building is connected to a control apparatus operated by an independent power source activated at the time of a station black-out. A circulation passage for air circulation generated in the reactor building is disposed in the reactor building and outside the reactor containment vessel. A hydrogen treatment duct connects to the circulation passage and a gangway and a room with equipment. During a severe accident and station black-out and when hydrogen concentration detected by the hydrogen detection apparatus exceeds a set concentration, the hydrogen treatment duct is put in use by the control apparatus. Air containing the hydrogen is introduced into the hydrogen treatment facilities through the hydrogen treatment duct and the circulation passage.

    • An apparatus for removing flammable gas is started only when a concentration change in the flammable gas in a primary containment vessel is detected, so that the decrease in activity of a catalyst due to a catalyst poison is prevented. This apparatus has a catalytic recombining apparatus equipped with a catalyst 1 for reacting the flammable gas, a case 2 that houses the catalyst, and lids 4a and 4b installed at openings 3a and 3b of the case 2. Adhesive parts 5a and 5b which adhere the lids 4a and 4b and the case 2 is melted at high temperatures, and heating elements 6a and 6b composed of an oxidizing catalyst of hydrogen is installed in contact with the adhesive parts 5a and 5b. Thus, the lids are not only closed under normal conditions but opened when the adhesive parts 5a and 5b being melted along with the temperature increase in the surrounding atmosphere.

    • An ignition system has a plurality of spark igniters for the recombination of hydrogen in a gas mixture. The ignition system provides and ensures reliable early ignition of an ignitable gas mixture, even in the case of comparatively fast gas displacement. Each spark igniter is, according to the invention, configured as a high-speed igniter with an operating frequency in excess of about 10 Hz. In order to ensure reliable ignition of the ignitable gas mixture both in the event of a temporary failure of external units, and when the ignition system has a particularly long operating time, the spark igniters are advantageously connected together in groups for supplying them with energy. Each group of spark igniters is connected to an intermediate energy store common to them, and the intermediate energy stores are connected to a central energy supply unit.

    • A device for elimination of hydrogen including (a) a reactor for reacting hydrogen and oxygen, the reactor being provided with a first inlet line, a second inlet line and an outlet line, the first inlet line admits a hydrogen-containing gas mixture into the reactor, the second inlet line admits a compressed oxygen-containing gas mixture into the reactor, and the outlet line serves to discharge the resultant gas mixture after at least a partial reaction of the hydrogen and oxygen in the reactor, (b) a turbine connected to a shaft which rotates with the turbine, and (c) a compressor which is connected to the shaft, so that the shaft transmits rotational movement generated by the turbine to the compressor, the compressor receives an oxygen-containing gas mixture and provides the compressed oxygen-containing gas mixture, the compressor being joined by a conduit to the second inlet line. The device solves the problem of reacting both large and also small quantities of hydrogen in the immediate vicinity of the point of formation and ensures an adequate oxygen supply for the reaction, even for large quantities of hydrogen.
