    • A concentration detector is adapted to detect the concentration of a liquid fuel in a container. The concentration detector comprises a rotating mechanism positioned underneath the level of the liquid fuel and having a rotational center. A first float having a specific gravity less than the specific gravity of the liquid fuel, a volume equivalent to “V” and a mass equivalent to “M”. The distance between the mass center of the first float and the rotational center is “L”. A second float connected with the first float and having a specific gravity less than the specific gravity of the liquid fuel, a volume equivalent to “V” and a mass equivalent to “r*M”. The distance between the mass center of the second float and the rotational center is “L. The mass center of the second float, the rotational center and the mass center of the first float constitute an included angle of 120°. A third float connected to the first float and the second float and having a specific gravity less than the specific gravity of the liquid fuel, a volume equivalent to “V” and a mass equivalent to “r2*M”. The distance between the mass center of the third float and the rotational center is “L. The mass center of the third float, the rotational center and the mass center of the second float constitute an included angle of 120°. Thereby the variation in the concentration of the liquid fuel is acquired by inspecting the change in the rotational direction of the rotating mechanism.

    • An instrument and method for surveying the static fluid column of a cased oil well and measuring the volume of oil and brine in the fluid column is disclosed. The instrument uses the inherent differences in specific gravity between water, oil and brine to provide a more simple, convenient, portable and cost effective means for surveying oil columns in cased oil wells. The instrument includes a probe, and a modified fishing rig used to lower and raise the probe into the oil well. The fishing rig includes a handled rod, a reel with a numeric line counter, and length of fused braided fishing line. The numeric line counter visually indicates the length of line expelled from the reel's spool. The probe includes a tubular casing, which is filled with ordinary tap water. The probe is constructed and filled with water so that it has a specific gravity greater than oil and less than brine (approximately 1.0 g/cc).

    • A method and apparatus for measuring the specific gravity of liquids in process streams by intermittently sampling the process stream and measuring the specific gravity of the sampled liquid under static conditions in a constant level overflow device by the use of a variable immersion hydrometer operatively connected to a linear voltage displacement transducer, i.e. differential transformer, whereby vertical displacement of the hydrometer results in an output voltage signal indicative of the specific gravity of the sampled liquid. Means can be provided for compensating the specific gravity for ambient and liquid temperature and for controlling and recording the specific gravity of the liquid.

    • A density sensing probe for use in a bath for etching metal. The etching bath operates with its upper surface at a fixed level. As etching proceeds, dissolved metal added to the bath by the etching process increases the density of the bath. Too great an increase reduces etching efficiency. A density sensing probe maintains the density of the bath substantially constant. The probe includes a member the specific gravity of which is slightly greater than a preselected bath density so that the member will sink when the density of the bath is slightly less than the preselected density, but will rise when the density of the bath is slightly greater than the preselected density. When the member rises, such motion closes a switch that actuates circuitry for supplying a replenishing liquid to the bath, which replenishing liquid has a density less than the preselected density. Thus, the density of the bath is maintained at about the preselected density, increasing as more metal is etched and decreasing when the probe causes replenishing liquid to be added.

    • The present invention relates generally to a combined liquid level indicator for indicating levels of liquid subject to fluctuation and hydrometer means for indicating the specific gravity of the liquid with the device adapted to be mounted in the upper wall of a liquid container, as for example the upper wall of a conventional storage battery. The embodiments of the invention disclosed in the present application include a visual liquid level indicating device having a reflecting surface at the inner end of a transparent body member and the upper end of the transparent body member is adapted to the concentrate light rays reflected from the inner end of the body member from different positions. The liquid level indicator is provided with a groove at its lower end and adapted to receive a pair of identical halves of the hollow body section of the hydrometer means. In another embodiment the hollow body section of the hydrometer means comprise two identical halves which are hinged together to accept a grooved indicator and having a female and male fastening means on the respective halves. The hydrometer means of the various embodiments are provided with chamber means and means for admitting liquid thereto and indicating ball float means operatively mounted within the chamber means for indicating the specific gravity of the liquid within which the hydrometer means is inserted. The different chamber means of the various embodiments comprise substantially parallel and inclined walls between which the indicating ball float means is operatively mounted for indicating the specific gravity of the liquid. When the liquid level of the battery or radiator with which the combined liquid level indicator and hydrometer means is utilized covers the end of the indicator one will obtain a normal black or dark pattern at the upper end. If the specific gravity is low, the orange or red colored ball will not float and will drop down and provide an indicia at the end of the indicator.
