    • A radiant tube heater assembly includes a housing containing a blower and a burner, which is aligned with an opening in the housing through which a flame and products of combustion flow into a U-shaped burner tube. The closed downstream end of the burner tube is in close proximity to the housing. In order to prevent or reduce the likelihood of the products of combustion entering the blower, an exhaust tube is mounted in a downstream leg of the burner tube and extends outwardly through the U-shaped outer end of the tube remote from the housing.

    • An improved tray ration heating system includes a reservoir. A heat exchanger transfers heat to the reservoir. A firebox at one end of the reservoir has an opening to receive a burner flame tube. The firebox delivers heated gasses from the burner flame tube along the underside of the reservoir to an opposite end of the reservoir. A main channel along the reservoir includes baffles which produce a tortuous path and introduce turbulence to the hot gasses. First and second channels adjacent to the main channel redirect hot air exiting the main channel, and third and fourth channels direct hot gasses exiting the first and second channels towards the opposite end of the reservoir. An exhaust channel extends along a vertical wall of the reservoir to an exhaust opening. The exhaust channel has baffles for displacing hot gasses across the vertical wall. An insulated outer liner supports the reservoir and heat exchanger.

    • A water heater includes a water tank, a combustion chamber below the tank and communicating with the flue tube, and a flue system. The flue system includes a flue tube, and V-shaped fins that are metallurgically bonded to the flue tube wall to divide the flue tube into four flue chambers extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the flue tube. The V-shaped fins include radially extending apertures that reduce the thermal expansion of the V-shaped fins with respect to the flue tube to reduce stress at the joint between the fins and the flue tube. The flue system also includes a removable baffle hanging in each flue chamber. The baffles include adjustable turbulation surfaces to control the quality of combustion in the water heater.

    • A flue baffle for use in a hot water tank flue through which flue gases from a burner chamber are discharged. The baffle is comprised of an elongated flat undulated metal strip having a securable flat upper end. The undulated metal strip is shaped to define a plurality of integrally formed, wave-shaped, deformations on opposed side portions of a central longitudinal axis thereof. A narrower undulated metal band is secured to the metal strip on opposed sides thereof and disposed substantially midway between the wave-shaped deformations on opposed sides of the flat metal strip. The upper end of the strip is adapted to retain the flue baffle axially within the flue to create turbulence and resistance to hot flue gases rising from the burner chamber to enhance heat exchange between the flue and a liquid being heated and in direct contact with an exterior surface of the flue.

    • Known chimneys or chimney furnaces use flue gas flow units for heating buildings, said devices having displaceable or fixed obstacles for deflecting flue gas for generating flue gas turbulence. The invention relates to a device and method for transferring heat through a flue gas discharge pipe in which pivotal guide plates are inserted in the longitudinal direction of the pipe run, at which the flue gas flow is more or less deflected in a sinuous line as function of the pivot angle of the guide plates that can be adjusted during furnace operation. A fan can increase the flue gas flow. An optional furnace heat exchanger generates additional hot water as needed. The controller activates the actuators for the fan, guide plate pivot angle setting, and at least one circulating pump as a function of the prescribed controlled variables such as flue gas temperature, reservoir temperature, heat exchanger performance, or flue gas flow.
