    • A baling apparatus is provided for forming large rectangular bales of fibrous material. The apparatus includes a rectangular bale chamber having an inlet for receiving baling material beneath the bale chamber and an outlet for discharging completed bales at the top of the bale chamber. Balable material is gathered from the surface of the field of by the pickup mechanism, formed into a mat by clamping rollers and transported toward the bale chamber by a conveying mechanism. A conveyor sweep apparatus detaches a segment of the mat on the conveyor and feeds it to a compressing mechanism located beneath the bale chamber inlet. The clamping rollers ensure that the mat separates cleanly when engaged by the sweep apparatus. The compressing structure then compresses the segment of baling material in a slow upward compression stroke into the bale chamber inlet. As a result, a rectangular bale comprising successive horizontal layers is formed within the bale chamber. A dedicated structure is provided for tying completed bales within the bale chamber and discharging the bales onto the surface of the field.

The bottom of the container includes means for unloading the formed stack and a wedge shaped vent forming member to form a vent groove in the stack.

    • The apparatus forms a unitary bale of agricultural or forestry biomass of uniform density and having a level top. A crop deflector is supported in the chamber above the packer apparatus for deflecting a stream of the biomass downwardly, and is configured and operable so as to move continuously with the packer apparatus between the ends of the chamber and to substantially constantly reconfigure as a function of a position of the packer apparatus and a direction of the movement thereof so as to deflect the stream of the biomass directly in a path of the packer apparatus in the current direction of the movement thereof so as to be immediately compacted thereby onto the floor or the bale.

    • An agricultural baler has a pick-up for picking up crop. The picked up crop is fed rearwardly from the pick-up into a compression chamber in which the crop is compressed into a high density bale by a compression member. The compression member is movable into the compression chamber to act on the crop and is then movable rearwardly when within the compression chamber to compress the crop against a stop to form the bale. The compression member is then movable outwardly of the compression chamber and, while disposed out of the compression chamber, is movable forwardly to return to the original position at the front of the compression chamber.
