Spring devices.-A power transmission mechanism for use with the spring frames of motor-cycles comprises gearing between the engine i and a gear-box j, gearing between the gearbox and a frame countershaft independent of the gear-box, and a third set of gearing between the frame countershaft and the road wheel. As shown, the countershaft is arranged coaxially with the axis of movement of wheel-carrying arms g controlled by springs h. The horizontal base part of the main frame may be of elongated U form with the engine located between the limbs. The gear-box may be horizontally adjustable upon a bracket l which in turn is vertically adjustable upon a plate k upon the engine, and these adjustments provide means for tensioning the chains m, n; or the engine may be horiontally adjustable in the main frame. The lug f may be arranged to carry the thick end of a laminated spring shackled at its rear end to the pivoted arm g, or the wheel-carrying parts may be in the form of triangular frames controlled by a spring device conveniently in the vicinity of the seat lug c. According to the Provisional Specification, at the countershaft the wheels for the chains n, p and the bushes for the pivot ends of the arms g may be mounted upon a fixed bolt provided with out. side tightening-nuts, the ends of the main-frame stays, into which the bushes are screwed or riveted, being cranked inwardly so that the bearings of the arms shall not project materially.
