    • An analyzing method and apparatus for a liquid sample are determines in which the value of density or activity for an analysis item is through optical measurement of a reaction solution of a liquid sample and a reagent. When an instruction of measurement for a plurality of analysis items about each sample on a sample disk is inputted, a controller selects for each sample an analysis item in which a time duration from the start of a reaction until the final optical measurement point is the longest, and allots the selected analysis item to a loading reaction vessel while allotting the remaining analysis items to the succeeding reaction vessels in a sequence from an item having a longer time duration. A sample supplying device and a reagent supplying device make necessary operations on the basis of the sequence of arrangement of the analysis items in which the minimum time is obtained, and a reaction solution is optically measured by a fixed photometer. Thereby, the overall analytical processing time can be shortened.

    • A method of electrochemical analysis involves contacting fluid samples of first and second different types in a mixed sequence with an electrochemical sensor, and also contacting the sensor with a standard fluid, in order to measure the values of an analytical item, e.g. ionic activity, in the samples with reference to a standard value of the same analytical item in the standard fluid. To improve response of the sensor, at each change in the sequence from the first sample type to the second sample type, the sensor is contacted with a second fluid having a value of the analytical item closer to the mean value of the analytical item in the second sample type than the value of the analytical item in the standard fluid. The method is applicable for example to analysis of blood serum and urine using an ion selective electrode.

    • A flow path in a flow analyzing apparatus is branched into two or more branch flow paths. In one of the branch flow paths, a flow path blockage detector and an electrolyte measuring electrode are disposed, and in the other branch flow path, a gas measuring electrode is disposed. When a liquid sample is introduced into the flow paths from a sampling nozzle of the common flow path, the blockage detector detects whether a blockage is occuring. If the blockage is detected, the blockage is removed by feeding a cleaning fluid into the common flow path in a direction opposite to the flow of the sample. Following this, the sample is introduced into the other branch flow path. By this operation, the pressure in the other branch flow path is not reduced abnormally, and thus normal operation of the gas measuring electrode can be maintained.
