    • A method for performing charging in a telecommunications system, comprising: storing at a subscriber information store subscription information including charging arrangement information indicative of the charging arrangement for a first communication terminal operating in the telecommunications system; providing by means of packet data interface apparatus packet data communication services to the first terminal, the packet data interface apparatus being capable of interfacing between the first communication terminal and a packet-switched data link to another communications terminal; generating by means of packet data interface apparatus charging messages indicative of the usage of the packet data communication services by the first terminal; transferring the charging messages to charging apparatus; and performing by means of the charging apparatus a charging operation to attribute to a subscriber for the first communications terminal a charge for use of the communication services by the first terminal; the method further including the steps of: transferring the charging arrangement information to the packet data interface apparatus; and storing at the packet data interface apparatus the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal; and wherein the stop of generating charge messages comprises generating the said charging messages dependant on the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal.

    • A technique for providing a voice traffic indication in a communication network includes creating a request to set up a communication session in a first network element of the network, the request including a voice traffic indication. The request is then forwarded to a second network element which detects the voice traffic indication in the forwarded request. The second network element then sets up the communication session in response to the request taking into account that voice traffic is to be transferred. The communication channel may include a PDP context. The second network element may be one of an SGSN, a GGSN, or an RNC. The first network element may include an MS.

    • The invention provides a method and device which may perform a combined attach and communication connection establishment procedure when attaching an equipment such as a mobile station to a mobile communication network. An attach request sent form the equipment may initiate this combined attach and communication connection establishment process. In the Home Location Register, communication connection parameters are set as default values which may be automatically selected, for instance when receiving a combined attach and communication connection establishment request. The combined attach and communication connection establishment process reduces the signaling load in the network and speeds up communication connection establishment.

    • The invention provides a method and system for handling a session request of a user equipment in a network comprising at least one supporting entity, in particular in a case where the user equipment is not allowed to initiate other session apart from specific session type. At least one of the supporting entities or another control entity is adapted to check whether or not the initiated session is actually continued as a session of the specific type. The session is forcibly terminated when detecting that it is not continued as such a session. A timer may be started when the user equipment attaches to the network for requesting a session, and the user equipment is detached from the network when not continuing with a session of the specific type within a defined time after attach.

    • In a packet switched wireless communications network, a parameter of a communication channel request indicates that the communication channel is to be used to transfer call related control messages. Upon receipt of the communication channel request, a network element sends a request to a radio access network that a part of the communication channel should be setup to transfer call related control messages. Another network element sets filtering information to allow only specific messages to be transferred on the communication channel. Specifically, the filtering information is set such that only call related control messages may be transferred on the communication channel. The other network element then sends the filtering information to the user equipment (UE). The UE derives the uplink filtering information from the received filtering information.
