    • An apparatus for controlling intake air flow rate in an internal combustion engine comprises a throttle valve disposed in intake air passage for swing movement to change a flow rate of air to be supplied to combustion chambers of the engine, a stopper portion to which the throttle valve is abutted so as to stop swinging thereof in a full closed portion thereof, a spring for continually urging the throttle valve towards the full closed position, a control unit for determining a desired opening degree of the throttle valve in accordance with requirements on the engine, an actuator for generating a driving force for swinging the throttle valve to the desired opening degree in accordance with a command signal from the control unit, and geared mechanism for transmitting the driving force from the actuator to the throttle valve. The geared mechanism includes a pair of gears, each having a gear tooth portion. The gears are able to engage with each other exclusively at such gear tooth portions. The gear tooth portion so extends that both of the gear tooth portions mesh with each other between full closed position and full open position of the throttle valve, and they are pushed out of mesh with each other over full open position of the throttle valve.

    • An image pickup apparatus using an image sensor is provided with a rotary shutter that controls the amount of time the image-forming light strikes the image sensor. A synchronism detector is provided to detect the phase difference between the rotation of the rotary shutter and the scanning of the image sensor by comparing the phase signals produced according to the speed of rotation of the rotary shutter and vertical synchronizing signals periodically produced as well as scanning signals for scanning the image sensor. When there is no phase difference between the two signals, the synchronism detector provides an operation signal which causes a switching circuit to be conductive, so as to permit an image recorder to record images. On the other hand, if there is a phase difference, the synchronism detector provides no operation signal and the switching circuit is rendered non-conductive so as to prevent the image recorder from recording images.

    • The intensity of light penetrating an X-ray film being viewed is automatically maintained at a preset, adjustable, eye comfort level. A photosensor detects the average light level on the observer side, and its output controls the charging time of a capacitor coupled to the emitter of a unijunction transistor. When the capacitor reaches a predetermined voltage it fires the transistor and dumps its charge through a pulse generator which in turn triggers a gated semiconductor connected in series with the viewer light source. The period between successive firing cycles is proportional to the penetrating light level. Thus, if the light level increases, as when a relatively transparent film negative is inserted in the viewer or when a negative is removed, the capacitor charging time increases, the firing period increases, and the light source intensity therefore decreases to restore the preset level of light penetration.
