    • One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for encoding a frequency conversion block using a frequency mask table, and to a method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding video using same. One embodiment of the present invention provides the method and the apparatus for encoding the frequency conversion block using the frequency mask table, and the method and the apparatus for encoding/decoding video using same, comprising the following steps: generating a masked frequency conversion block by masking the frequency conversion block using the frequency mask table; encoding information on the frequency conversion block and the frequency mask table, which is used for masking the frequency conversion block; a decoding end extracting information on the frequency mask table so as to extract a masked quantized frequency coefficient row which is recorded on a bit stream; setting to 0 all of the quantized frequency coefficients in a location that is not recorded on the bitstream by using the extracted information on the frequency mask table, for generating the quantized frequency coefficient row; and reverse-scanning the generated quantized frequency coefficient row for forming and encoding the quantized frequency conversion block.

    • The present invention relates to a motion vector encoding/decoding method and device and an image encoding/decoding method and device using the same. The invention provides the motion vector encoding method comprising the steps of: selecting a predictive motion vector candidate set which includes one or more predictive motion vector candidates for a block; determining a search range for the predictive motion vector candidate set; selecting one predictive motion vector candidate of the one or more predictive motion vector candidates as a predictive motion vector candidate in accordance with each search point, according to the image decoding device and a first determination standard which is previously appointed for each search point within the search range; determining a predictive motion vector, a differential motion vector, and a current motion vector by selecting one predictive motion vector candidate of the predictive motion vector candidates in accordance with each search point, according to the image decoding device and a second determination standard which is not previously appointed; and generating and encoding the differential motion vector as motion information. According to the present invention, motion vectors are encoded by using more accurate predictive motion vectors, and there is no need to add information for identifying the predictive motion vectors to the encoded data, thereby improving the motion vector encoding efficiency.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for selecting a prediction mode, and to an image encoding/decoding method and apparatus using same. The image encoding apparatus according to the present invention comprises a bit stream generator for: selecting an intra-prediction mode of a current block based on a variation in pixel values of adjacent pixels of the current block to be encoded in an input image, performing intra-prediction of the current block according to the intra-prediction mode of the selected current block, encoding generated remaining blocks, and generating encoded coefficient bits; generating and outputting a bitstream including the encoded coefficient bits and prediction mode bits indicating the intra-prediction mode of the selected current block in macroblock units or sub-block units; and selectively including the prediction mode bits in the bitstream based on the variation. According to the present invention, the selection process of a prediction mode for image compression can be simplified, the compression rate can be increased, and the size of compressed data can be reduced, to improve compression efficiency.
