    • PURPOSE:To decrease the cracking of a slab by applying compressive force through light screw-down to the slab in its lengthwise direction near its horizontal leveling area and applying the screw-down in the width direction and the broadside screw- down restraining the top and bottom surfaces near the horizontal leveling point in the curved type continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:For example, a slab 9 having unfrozen portions is lightly screwed down by horizontal drive rolls 10 of nearly the same speed as the casting speed in front of the horizontal leveling point and is given compressive action in its lengthwise direction by brake rolls 11 of a slower speed behind the horizontal leveling point. Also, the screw-down in the width direction and compressive force in the lengthwise direction within a range of the broadside screw-down are applied by die rolls 12 near the horizontal leveling point. The die rolls 12 are of a plurality consisting of drive rolls 12a, 12c and control rolls 12c. In order to prevent the occurrence of buckling in the slab 9, the horizontal rolls 14 restraining its top and bottom surfaces are provided. At this time, the die rolls 12 and horizontal rolls 14 are so disposed that the die axis of the former aligns to the horizontal axis of the horizontal rolls 14, to apply no screw-down to the horizontal rolls 14.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the cracking of a slab by acting compressive force in its lengthwise direction near at least the horizontal leveling area and applying drawing force in the width direction near the horizontal leveling point in the curved type continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal drive rolls 10 of a speed nearly coinciding with the casting speed are provided in front of the portion near the horizontal leveling point of e.g. a slab 9 having unfrozen portions and brake rolls 11 of a speed slower than the casting speed are provided behind the portion near the horizontal leveling point, to apply compressive action in the lengthwise direction to the slab between these rolls. In addition, the drawing force in the width direction is applied to the slab by three pairs of broadside vertical rolls 12 near the horizontal leveling point. The vertical rolls 12a, 12b are drive rolls which are the same in speed as the horizontal drive rolls and the vertical rolls 12c are brake rolls of a low speed which apply drawing force dividedly at plural positions. The leveling strain with low-head casting is relieved by the synergistic effect of the compressive action in the lengthwise direction of the horizontal rolls 10, 11 and the lateral screw-down action and compressive action in the width direction of the vertical rolls 12.

    • PURPOSE:To minimize the upward flow owing to the collision of electromagnetic flow against the wall surfaces of the mold and stabilize the electromagnetic flow by approaching the positions of the linear motors which give electromagnetic flow to the freezing interface molten steel to the molten metal surface in the mold in order to form the sound frozen layer of a suitable thickness to the slab. CONSTITUTION:Linear motors 3 are provided along both long sides 2 in a slab mold 1 and their thrust is given in the mutually different directions 4, 4'. Electromagnetic flow 5 is thus given to the freezing interface molten steel up to the position where the frozen thickness corresponding to the scale thickness formed from at least during casting until the start of rolling. At this time, the installation positions of the linear motors 3 are approached as close to the molten metal surface 6 in the mold as possible within the range where the frozen layer of more than this scale thickness may be formed. As a result of this, the flow generated on the wall surface side of the long sides 2 of the mold collides against the wall surfaces of the adjacent short sides 9 and the upward flow out of the components going toward the long sides on the opposite side and those divided to the top and bottom may be suppressed. Hence, no large turbulence occurs in the molten metal surface powder 8.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably produce a cast slab having good surface characteristic in a high speed casting by equipping an actuator for controlling the surface characteristic of long sides of a mold contacting with the cast slab to a cooling box. SOLUTION: The actuator 7 is fixed to a mold frame 8 demarcating the outer wall of the mold 1 and this stroke part 7a is fixed to the back surface of a buffer plate 3 by penetrating the cooling box 4. The actuator 7 is constituted with few sets of hydraulic cylinders, and the one that the stroke can be controlled e.g. at ±0.01mm accuracy, is adjusted. Further, on a copper plate 2 of the long side of the mold, a thermocouple for detecting the surface temp. is arranged, and the stroke of the hydraulic cylinder 7 is controlled based on the detecting signal of the thermocouple. By this method, the expansion of the mold to the cast slab side near a meniscus is controlled and the mold form according to the solidified shrinkage of the cast slab is obtd., and the powder functioning as a lubricant is stably supplied and the cast slab having good surface characteristic is obtd.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent hoot tear and clod shut crack at the defects of a steel by forming a specific metal-base thermal-sprayed film from the starting pt. of solidified shell developed on an inner surface at the end part of a copper alloy-made cylindrical mold contacting with molten steel approaching to a brake ring to the other end side of the mold. CONSTITUTION: The copper alloy-made cylindrical mold 7 forms the metal-base thermal-sprayed film 9 of 0.1-10.0mm thickness excellent in heat shock resistance, zinc resistance and wear resistance on the inner surface at the end part of the brake ring side. This metal-base film 9 is formed so as to satisfy the relationship I to the position from the starting position fo solidified shell developed on the inner surface at the end part of the mold 7 to the other end side of the mold 7. Wherein, (d) is the film thickness at 0.1-10.0mm, K is thermal conductivity (kcal/m.hr. deg.C) and L is the film length (mm) from the starting pt. of solidification. Further, as the metal-base thermal sprayed film 9, Co-base alloy, etc., is suitable and inn order to secure the sticking force of the copper alloy forming the mold with these alloy, it is effective to interpose an Ni-plating film.
