    • A frame generating device includes an inserting portion and an accommodating portion. The inserting portion inserts a first fixed stuff byte and a second fixed stuff byte into a payload area of an OTU frame, the first fixed stuff byte being of (8+10n (“n” is zero or a given positive integer))×4 rows, the second fixed stuff byte being of a given byte×4 rows, the given byte being equal to zero or more and being equal to (24−10n) or more. The accommodating portion accommodates Ethernet signal in the payload area other than the first fixed stuff byte and the second fixed stuff byte.

    • An optical sender is disclosed that operates in a Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying modulation scheme for high speed optical transmission and is capable of performing logical calculations at a low speed. The optical sender transmits a Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DQPSK) signal generated with modulation signals ρk and ηk so that a signal directly output from a signal receiver corresponding to the optical sender is in agreement with data signals Ik and Qk to be transmitted. The signal receiver is capable of modulation by DQPSK, and the modulation signals ρk and ηk are precoded by using the data signals Ik and Qk and the modulation signals one symbol earlier (ρk−1 and ηk−1) . The optical sender includes plural precoders that perform logical calculation simultaneously and in parallel on plural data signals one period after another period.

    • Disclosed herein is an optical node device applicable to an optical network including a closed loop provided by an optical fiber. This optical node device includes a tunable wavelength selecting element adapted to input WDM signal light obtained by wavelength division multiplexing a plurality of optical signals having different wavelengths, the tunable wavelength selecting element having a function of dropping at least one optical signal from the WDM signal light and a function of adding at least one optical signal to at least one unassigned wavelength channel of the WDM signal light; and a wavelength selecting filter optically connected to the tunable wavelength selecting element for removing noise present in any bands other than a signal band of each optical signal passing through the tunable wavelength selecting element. With this configuration, the oscillation of optical power in the closed loop can be prevented by the use of the wavelength selecting filter for removing noise in any bands other than the signal band.

    • An object is to simplify a process performed due to a failure recovery. To realize this object, the transmission apparatus includes a determining unit that determines, when a transmission apparatus receives a frame from each ring in a network including multiple rings in which a part of each ring is shared, whether failure information indicating that a failure has occurred in one of the rings is contained in one of the received frames. The transmission apparatus also includes a mapping unit that maps a frame that is determined by the determining unit to contain the failure information, onto a shared frame that is a frame used in a shared portion in the multiple rings. Accordingly, the process performed due to a failure recovery can be simplified.
