    • A performance value DB stores multiple states of parts comprising a system, and the consumed power of parts in those states. In addition, a condition DB stores conditions when the states of the parts change. A calculator generates state sequences in which the states are arrayed in the order of change in accordance with conditions stored in the condition DB, when information indicating the states of the parts is not communicated. The calculator computes the percentage of the time the parts are in each state per unit time for each state comprising this state sequence. Furthermore, the calculator finds the products of the computed ratios and the consumed power stored in the performance value DB for each state comprising the state sequence, and estimates the sum of the products found as the consumed power of the part.

    • A tire air pressure detecting device determines whether an abnormality has occurred in a transmitter. When a response is not received from the transmitter mounted on a wheel, wheel information detection is retried because an abnormality may have occurred in the transmitter. A triggering device is provided on the vehicle-body side and requests a response from the transmitter corresponding to the relevant wheel. The wheel information detection is retried by the triggering device being instructed to output a trigger signal (re-try trigger signal) at a timing (phase) differing from a steady transmission. As a result, the tire air pressure detecting device can accurately determine whether the unresponsive state of the transmitter is caused by an abnormality in the transmitter or by another cause.

    • According to the present invention, there is provided a wheel identifying apparatus for a vehicle which includes a transmitter, a signal strength determiner, a variation determiner, and a wheel identifier. The transmitter is located on the body of the vehicle and working to transmit a signal during running of the vehicle. The signal strength determiner is located on a wheel of the vehicle away from the rotational axis of the wheel and works to determine strength of the signal thereat. The variation determiner works to determine a variation in the strength of the signal determined by the signal strength determiner. The wheel identifier is configured to identify the wheel as a spare wheel located on the body of the vehicle when the variation determined by the variation determiner is substantially zero.

    • A first trigger unit and a second trigger unit output trigger signals to transceivers disposed for the four wheels of a vehicle. The first and second trigger units are attached to wall surfaces of tire housings corresponding to the left front and left rear wheels respectively. Each of the first and second trigger units is arranged in a position of the wall surface having an angle from 5 to 25 degrees with respect to the side of the corresponding wheel. Transceivers attached to a right front and right rear wheels are thus located farther from the trigger units than the left front and left rear wheels, respectively. Such arrangement allows the transceivers attached to the right front and right rear wheels to receive the outputted trigger signals with sufficient accuracy due to high field strength.

    • An apparatus for detecting positions of wheels of a vehicle is provided. In the apparatus, a triggering signal is transmitted from the body side to each transceiver mounted at each wheel. In each transceiver, the strength of the received triggering signal is measured and formatted into a frame of data to be transmitted to a receiver mounted to the vehicle body. The strength of the triggering signal is used to detect wheel positions by determining that each transducer is disposed at which wheel. The receiver determines if there is a reply of the flame of data containing the strength when the triggering device transmits the triggering signal. When no replay comes from the transceiver, the strength of noise is measured in the transceiver in response to a command from the receiver. When the noise strength is less than a threshold, the receiver commands an alarm member to issue alarm.

The first and second triggering devices continuously transmit first and second trigger signals, respectively. Each of the transceivers monitors the strength of either the first or second trigger signal thereat for a given length of time, and transmits a signal indicating variation in the monitored strength. The receiver receives and provides to the wheel identifier all the signals transmitted by the transceivers. The wheel identifier identifies, for each of the signals, the wheel on which the transceiver having transmitted the signal is located through a comparison between the variations indicated by the signals.
