    • A Fast Notification Access Channel is used in a system for multiplexing users on a shared cellular packet data traffic channel in a cellular packet data network system. The system includes a mobile station having a mobile station control system. The mobile station control system transmits packet data on the shared packet data traffic channel to a base station until it reaches an inactive period and upon having additional data to transmit transmits a notification signal to the base station, the notification signal uniquely identifying the mobile station on the shared cellular packet data traffic channel. A network control system is operatively associated with the base station. The network control system allocates uplink on the shared packet data channel to the mobile station after receiving the notification signal until the mobile station reaches the inactive period.

    • A quite simple and effective way for simplifying the mobile system for the mobile broadband customers, thereby lowering the equipment costs and in the end allowing for more competitive flat rate fees, is to direct the traffic from mobile broadband devices (110) to dedicated gateways (120). The mobile broadband device (110) is comprised in a user equipment (105) in a wireless communication network (100). The wireless communication network (100) comprises a network node (115) is arranged to be connected to the mobile broadband device (110). First, the mobile broadband device (110) sends (200, 300) an attach request message to the network node (115). The attach request comprises an information element indicating that the device (110) is a broadband device. After the device (110) has received the attach accept message it sends (302, 205) traffic to the dedicated gateway (120).

The packet data gateway engages in a service based local procedure (SBLP) whereby a negotiated QoS property is received for a given session identifier as negotiated between a user entity (UE), an Application Function (AF) and a Policy Decision Function (PDF). A WLAN user entity engaging with the PDG is defined. Moreover, a service based local policy procedure (SBLP) for a packet data gateway (PDG) and Service based local policy procedure for a dedicated gateway support node (GGSN) and a tunnel terminal gateway (TTG) is disclosed.
