    • PURPOSE:To allow the user to select an available communication class by judging the availability of voice communication and of data communication based on measured communication quality and judging a possible highest modulation demodulation speed when the data communication is available. CONSTITUTION:A reception circuit 104 sends a signal level to a communication quality judging circuit 106, which judges the communication quality from electric field strength information and numerizes the quality as, e.g. 10-step evaluation and stores the result to an internal register in a form decoded by a CPU 116. The relation between the electric field strength and the communication quality is registered in advance in the circuit 106. Upon the request of the user, the CPU 116 reads a value of the register in the circuit 106 and displays the availability of data communication, that of voice communication and a maximum data communication speed when the data communication is available onto a display device 120 according to the value. The communication quality expressed in the 10-step evaluation is stored in a memory 117 as data after an evaluation experiment is implemented. The CPU 116 references the data and makes evaluation. The user receives the data to implement the communication.

When the primitive is re ceived from the path 22, the processing mechanism 10 performs access through the path 23 to protocol control information on the memory 30 and executes the protocol processing. In such a way, the processor 2 forms a 3-port memory so as to simultaneously execute three processings as mentioned above. Then, the processing mechanism 10 executes a processing concerning the prescribed layer of the hierarchized protocol.
