    • In a system using a looped interface, a faulty device and a disconnected location respectively causing a link fault are specified. Plural devices 200 are connected to the looped interface 120 and a port bypass circuit 210 detaches the faulty device from the looped interface. A port bypass circuit controller 100 controls port bypass circuits and sequentially detaches a device from the looped interface when a link of the looped interface is disconnected. It is checked whether a loop fault continues or not after the device is detached. The operation is repeated by the number of the devices to acquire the result of the check and a device causing the loop fault is specified based upon the result of the check.

    • The control unit for the magnetic tape unit compresses data and writes in a physical block unit in the buffer according to the data write instruction from the host computer or without compressing writes in a logical block unit in the buffer. And, according to the data read instruction from the host computer, the data read from the magnetic tape unit is stored in the buffer and transferred to the host computer. When the read data is an extended format due to compression, the data is expanded before being transferred. When an error occurs in writing data in the magnetic tape unit, information such as the maximum block size and total capacity of data within the buffer is informed to the host computer. In the following data recovery process, the unwritten data within the buffer is recovered in the logical block unit or physical block unit. In the recovery in the logical block unit, when it is the standard format data, it is read as it is and transferred to the host computer. When it is the extended format due to compression, it is read after effecting expansion processing. In the recovery in the physical block unit, the data is not expanded and read to be recovered in the compressed data.

    • Parts such as bearings are press-fitted into a workpiece by an automatic system which includes a positioning device for positioning a workpiece, and a pressing device for press-fitting a part into the workpiece which is positioned by the positioning device. The positioning device includes a jig base having a stationary reference surface, a support table movable toward and away from the stationary reference surface, and a pusher unit for pushing the support table to create a gap between an end surface of the workpiece and the stationary reference surface when the workpiece is placed on the support table. The pressing device includes a presser unit including a presser rod for holding the part thereon, the presser unit being movable toward and away from the support table, and an actuator for pressing the end surface of the workpiece against the stationary reference surface to position the workpiece before the part is press-fitted into the workpiece by the presser rod.
