摘要： The present invention provides antibodies and immunologically functional fragments thereof that specifically bind Dkk-1 polypeptides. The subject antibodies and fragments bind with high affinity to a conformational epitope located in the carboxy region of the Dkk-1 protein. Methods for preparing such antibodies or fragments thereof as well as physiologically acceptable compositions containing the antibodies or fragments are also provided. Use of the antibodies and fragments to treat various diseases including bone disorders, inflammatory diseases, neurological diseases, ocular diseases, renal diseases, pulmonary diseases and skin diseases are also disclosed.

In one embodiment, the disclosed system includes a slide tray holding a plurality of slides in a substantially horizontal position and a workstation that receives the slide tray. In a particular embodiment, a workstation delivers a reagent to slide surfaces without substantial transfer of reagent (and reagent borne contaminants such as dislodged cells) from one slide to another. 摘要： A method and apparatus for an automated biological reaction system is provided. In the processing of a biological reaction system, there is a need for consistently placing an amount of fluid on a slide. In order to accomplish this, several methods are used including a consistency pulse and a volume adjust means. Moreover, in order to reliably operate an automated biological reaction system, the dispenser must be reliable, easy to assemble and accurate. Among other things, in order to accomplish this, the dispense chamber is substantially in line with the reservoir chamber, the reservoir chamber piston is removed, and the flow of fluid through the dispenser is simplified. Further, in order to operate the automated biological reaction system more reliably, the system is designed in modular pieces with higher functions performed by a host device and the execution of the staining operations performed by remote devices. Also, to reliably catalog data which is used by the automated biological reaction system, data is loaded to a memory device, which in turn is used by the operator to update the operator's databases. The generation of the sequence of steps for the automated biological reaction device based on data loaded by the operator, including checks to determine the ability to complete the run, is provided.

The valve has a pair of rotary spool valves (52, 54), each valve has a shaft (60) with an axial bore (64) in one end and a radial bore (66) communicating with the axial bore. A valve seal (70) surrounds the shaft. A pair of radial passageways (77, 78) in the seal are aligned diametrically and lie in a common plane with the radial bore (66) in the valve shaft. A pinion (62) is fixed to each shaft and a common driving gear (68) engages each pinion to rotate both shafts simultaneously through 180.degree. to place the radial bores in the shafts in communication selectively with either radial passageway in the valve seals.

摘要： An instrument for photographing the ocular fundus is aligned by using a physical aperture designed to permit illumination of only a small area of the optic disc for minimal patient awareness of incident light and corresponding pupil dilation without mydriatics. The increased field of view and obliquity of viewing afforded by pupil dilation permits flashing of the fundus for photographic recording without image obscuring corneal reflections. The light restricting aperture is removed immediately before photographic recording.
