    • PURPOSE: To provide couplings with sufficient durability and to enable inner soil to be immediately excavated by forming the connecting surfaces of upper and lower propulsion pipes into circular shapes that fit each other, and causing the recessed and projecting parts of the connecting surfaces to be fitted and slid against each other for propulsion. CONSTITUTION: Each propulsion pipe 1 is formed by first and second opposite circular surfaces 2, 3 and side faces 4, 4 connecting the circular surfaces 2, 3 together at both ends. The lowermost propulsion pipe 1 is propelled from a propulsion-pipe starting shaft with the first circular surface 2 facing upward, and a projecting part 6 of T-shaped cross section welded to the second circular surface 3 of the next propulsion pipe 1 is fitted and slid into a recessed portion 5 provided in the first circular surface 2 of the lower propulsion pipe 1 and the pipes are propelled. Soil between the recessed part 5 and the projecting part 6 is washed off by injection of a high-pressure jet of water from a recessed portion 9 of an inverted Ω-shaped cross section which is provided on the first circular surface 2, and after a sealant is packed, tightening steel rods are passed through through holes 7a, 8a provided in the respective circular surfaces 3, 2 and are connected together, and high-performance mortar is injected from the recessed portion 9 and packed. Similar procedures are repeated to construct the outer wall body of a tunnel.

    • PURPOSE:To provide the capability of coping with internal pressure by forming a shear resistance section such as ribs staggered along the peripheral direction of lining, on the ring joint surface between segments, and filling the gap of the jointed surface with a filler for jointing the segments to each other. CONSTITUTION:In space inside the skin plate 20 of a shield machine, synthetic segments 1A are held with an erector and supported on a mobile timbering device 21. Concrete 22 is placed in the concrete filling space 6 of a steel hull from a concrete filling port. Then, the coupling sections 12 and 13 of the segments 1A joined together via a seal member 25, and filling space 26 formed out of the filling recesses of both segments 1A is filled with a filler 27. While a shield machine is being propelled with a propulsion jack 23, a back-filling material 24 is fed through a back-filling port 16. According to this construction, segment rings, particularly when subjected to internal pressure, can effectively cooperate with each other for resisting axial tension and cross sectional shear.
