    • Saw-shaped protrusions, which are parallel to each other, are formed on the common electrode and the pixel electrode in two substrates. Protrusions in two substrates are arranged alternately and the bent portions of the saw-shaped protrusions are placed on the line transverse passing through the center of a pixel. Branches extend from the convex point of one saw-shaped protrusion toward the apex to the other saw-shaped protrusion, and another branch extend from the point where the protrusion meets the boundary of the pixel electrode toward the point where the boundary of the pixel electrode and the saw-shaped protrusion make an acute angle. A liquid crystal layer between two electrodes are divided to four regions where the directors of the liquid crystal layer have different angles when a voltage is applied to the electrodes, and then, wide viewing angle is obtained. In most regions, protrusions are formed straight and the protrusions have only obtuse angles at the bent points. Therefore, fast response time is shortened, disclination is removed and luminance increases.

    • A liquid crystal display includes a first insulating substrate, and a second insulating substrate facing the first insulating substrate. Gate lines are formed on the first insulating substrate while extending in a horizontal direction. A gate insulating layer is formed on the gate lines. A semiconductor layer and data lines are formed on the gate insulating layer. The data lines extend in a vertical direction. Source electrodes are formed on the semiconductor layer while being connected to the data lines. Drain electrodes face the source electrodes. A protective layer is formed on the data lines, and pixel electrodes are formed on the protective layer such that the pixel electrodes are connected to the drain electrodes while having a plurality of slits and horizontal opening portions. A common electrode is formed on the second insulating substrate with a plurality of opening portions. The horizontal opening portions of the pixel electrode and the opening portions of the common electrode partition the pixel region into left and right domains as well as upper and lower domains. The slits are positioned at the left and right domains.

    • In an LCD apparatus and a method of manufacturing the same, a first substrate on which a pixel electrode is formed includes a color filter formed at a pixel area thereof. A color filter spacer is formed at a position between the pixel area and an adjacent pixel area while the color filter is formed. A second substrate on which the common electrode is formed includes a light blocking pattern formed at the position between the pixel area and adjacent pixel area so as to block light incident through between the pixel area and adjacent pixel area, and a light visual angle pattern formed at the position corresponding to the pixel area so as to widen a visual angle of light incident into the pixel area. Thus, the LCD apparatus may be manufactured through simplified and reduced processes and improve display quality of an image.

The first panel includes a first transparent substrate having a pixel area, a thin film transistor disposed at the pixel area so as to output a pixel voltage, a first color filter disposed at the pixel area, the first color filter having a first edge, a second color filter disposed adjacent to the first color filter and having a second edge, the first edge and the second edge being overlapped to provide an overlapped area between the first color filter and the second color filter, a spacer disposed on the overlapped area between the first color filter and the adjacent second color filter, and a pixel electrode disposed on the first color filter so as to receive the pixel voltage. The spacer has a same material as one of the first color filter and the second color filter. The second panel includes a second transparent substrate and a common electrode disposed on the second transparent substrate.
