    • An exemplary elevator lighting device includes a display panel that is activated during elevator operation to provide a display of selected information. A backlight portion illuminates the display panel during elevator operation to make the selected information visible on the display panel. The backlight portion receives power from a primary power source during elevator operation. The backlight portion receives power from a backup power source when power from the primary power source is discontinued. The backlight portion illuminates the display panel during the power loss condition to provide light in a vicinity of the device such as within an elevator cab.

    • An exemplary sill for use in an elevator system includes a sill plate that is a single piece of metal. The sill plate has a first portion in a first plane and a second portion adjacent to the first portion. The second portion is bent into a second plane that intersects the first plane. A third portion is adjacent to the second portion. The third portion is bent at least partially into a third plane that intersects the second plane. A fourth portion is adjacent to the third portion. The fourth portion is bent into a fourth plane that intersects the third plane and intersects the first plane. A fifth portion is adjacent to the fourth portion. The fifth portion is bent into the first plane. The second, third and fourth portions collectively establish a groove that is configured to receive a portion of an elevator system door. A base portion is provided in a plane parallel to the first plane. Connector portions near opposite ends of the base portion protrude from the base portion in a direction toward the first plane of the sill plate. At least one of the connector portions is connected to a selected portion of the sill plate near an end of the sill plate.

    • An elevator target floor registration unit, which displays an estimated amount of time until an assigned elevator car arrives, reduces feelings of uneasiness. Various target floor registration units by which a user may register a target floor are installed on respective floors of a building. The target floor registration units are connected to an elevator controller via an interface. The elevator controller: (a) assigns a most suitable elevator car corresponding to a user's target floor registered using the target floor registration unit; (b) computes an expected waiting time for the elevator assigned to arrive at the floor of the aforementioned registration; and (c) sends said pieces of information on the elevator assignment and the expected waiting time to aforementioned target floor registration unit in order to display them.

Each hitch assembly (14) includes an adjustable member (18) for adjusting a biasing force exerted by a biasing member (20) on the elevator car (12). The adjustable member (18) varies the length of the biasing member (20) to distribute at least a portion of a supporting force among the plurality of ropes (16) to counter imbalanced loads on the elevator car (12).
