    • The invention relates to a knee joint prosthesis system adapted to replace the articulating knee portion of a femur and a tibia. The knee joint prosthesis system includes a first femoral component and a second femoral component. The first femoral component includes a first femoral engagement region and a first condylar portion having a first femoral bearing surface. The first femoral engagement region is operable to engage a resecting engagement surface of the femur and the first condylar portion includes a first posterior region having a first thickness. The second femoral component includes a second femoral engagement region and a second condylar portion having a second femoral bearing surface. The second femoral engagement region is operable to engage the resected engagement surface of the femur and the second condylar portion includes a second posterior region having a second thickness. The second thickness is larger than the first thickness and the first femoral engagement region is substantially the same as the second femoral engagement region, whereby a surgeon may select either the first femoral component or the second femoral component for attachment to the femur.

    • A mono-condylar knee joint prosthesis that includes a femur part having a convex running surface. The knee joint prosthesis further includes a tibia part having a sliding surface which faces the femur part and an intermediate part which is introduced between the femur part and the tibia part during implantation. The curved guides (6, 6′, 7, 7′) are located in half-shells (3, 4) which are connected to the second pivoting part, e.g. the upper leg. Parts of the inventive knee joint which are subject to wear are relatively easy to replace and movement sequences can also be modified when replacements are made.

    • A knee prosthesis and method for use are provided, in which the knee prosthesis provides anterior and posterior stability and controlled femoral roll-back, while also providing rotational kinematics. The femoral component has a pair of convexly shaped condyles which are spaced apart to form an intercondylar notch. Anterior and posterior cams are provided within the notch. The tibial component comprises a platform upon which a tibial bearing is mounted to provide for rotational movement about the tibial axis. The tibial bearing is provided with surfaces to engage the condyles and has an upwardly extending spine which is positioned to engage the anterior and posterior femoral cams. The posterior surface of the upwardly extending spine is arranged coincident with the tibial axis. At full extension, the spine engages the anterior femoral cam to provide a 3° hyperextension stop. Between full extension and approximately 50° of flexion, the spine is free to translate between the anterior and posterior femoral cams. From 50° to 120° of flexion, the spine engages the posterior femoral cam, which provides femoral roll-back and posterior stability.
