    • A differential pressure-controlled locking mechanism (10) comprises a housing (12), as well as a first pressure chamber (14) which is arranged in the housing (12) and which is connectable to a first ambient zone. A second pressure chamber, arranged in the housing (12), is connectable to a second ambient zone and is separated from the first pressure chamber (14) by a mobile separating device (18). The separating device (18) is in an inactive position when the pressure in the first pressure chamber (14) is equal to the pressure in the second pressure chamber. Conversely, the separating device (18) is movable from its inactive position into a differential pressure position when a predetermined differential pressure acts on the separating device (18). An actuation element (22), which is held in a first position by the separating device (18) when the separating device (18) is in its inactive position, is movable into a second position when the mobile separating device (18) is in its differential pressure position. A latch (32) is held in a locking position when the actuation element (22) is in its first position, and is movable into an unlocking position when the actuation element (22) is in its second position.

    • An outer operational device includes a cover mounted to a side of a door. An actuating member is mounted in the cover and includes an end engaged with a handle to rotate therewith. A sliding member is slideably received in the cover and operably connected to the actuating member, so that the sliding member slides when the actuating member rotates. A limiting member is pivotably received in the cover between a blocking position not allowing movement of the sliding member and a release position allowing movement of the sliding member. The handle is rotatable when the limiting member is in the release position. The handle is not rotatable when the limiting member is in the blocking position. A key-operable lock core is operably connected to the actuating member, so that the limiting member can be moved to the blocking position to provide a burglarproof function.

    • The invention provides an assembly (20) for release of an element (8) such as a hatch. The assembly (20) includes first means such as a peg (28) moveable between a first position in which the first means (28) restricts full release of the element (8) and a second position in which the first means (28) does not restrict full release of the element (8), and second means, such as shape memory alloy wire (32) which is adapted to contract when activated to move the first means (28) from the second position to the first position. Optionally, the assembly (20) includes third means, such as shape memory alloy wire (34) which is adapted to contract when activated to move the first means (28) from the first position to the second position. The assembly (20) is useful for testing oxygen release apparatus in aircraft.

    • The invention relates to an emergency exit window for vehicles such as school buses. Spring biased latches are carried by the upper part of a window pane. The spring biased latches have bolts which engage stops at various locations on opposite sides of the window frame surrounding the window. The latches may be normally operated individually by hand to riase and lower the window between a ventilating position (including half-open and other partially open positions), and a fully closed position. The window is equipped with an emergency handle which may be used to pull the latches towards each other, and thereby enable the window to assume a fully open position. In the fully open position, inversion stops prevent the window from inadvertently closing in the event that the vehicle is overturned. The latches are housed in a latch cover which has latch openings. The latch openings are sized so that they prevent manual use of the latches to cause the window to be fully opened. Therefore, only the emergency handle may be used to move the window to the fully open emergency position.
