    • A circuit breaker includes separable contacts, an operating mechanism structured to open and close the separable contacts, and a trip mechanism cooperating with the operating mechanism to trip open the contacts. The trip mechanism includes a current transformer structured to sense a current flowing through the contacts and provide a signal representative of the current. A manually operable selector selects one of a plurality of predetermined current conditions by using a plurality of different zener diodes. Each of the predetermined current conditions is greater than an arc reduction maintenance current condition of four times the maximum rated current of the trip mechanism. An instantaneous trip circuit cooperates with the current transformer and the manually operable selector to compare the signal representative of the current with respect to the selected one of the predetermined current conditions. The instantaneous trip circuit responsively causes the operating mechanism to instantaneously trip open the contacts.

    • An instantaneous trip mechanism for a mould cased circuit breaker in a trip mechanism of a mould cased circuit breaker, the instantaneous trip mechanism capable of easily adjusting a trip current sensitivity for initiating an instantaneous trip operation and of fabricating a reliable mould cased circuit breaker by employing a simple construction for the adjusting unit and supporting a constant trip current sensitivity by products, the instantaneous trip mechanism for the mould cased circuit breaker comprising: a fixed electromagnet for generating a magnetic force which is changed according to a current flowing on a circuit; an armature disposed to face the fixed electromagnet and rotatable to a position for tripping the mould cased circuit breaker by the magnetic force from the fixed electromagnet when a great current exceeding a normal current flows on the circuit; a spring for elastically biasing the armature in a direction of being separated from the fixed electromagnet; an adjusting dial member having a cam surface for adjusting a gap between the armature and the fixed electromagnet; and an adjusting bar having one end contacted with the cam surface of the adjusting dial member and another end contacted with the armature, and rotatable to change the gap by pushing the armature according to a position of being contacted with the cam surface of the adjusting dial member.

    • In a selective safety device for the protection of successive power levels in a power distribution system, a current limiting switch is provided in each of the power levels and includes a current-limiting quick-switching contact which is so positioned at the power supply side in each one of the different power levels such that the current limiting switch immediately in front of a fault is switched off upon occurrence of a fault. A resistor is connected across each of the quick-switching contacts and is serially connected in the interrupted circuit upon the opening action of the quick-switching contact. Additionally, a slow-switching contact is serially connected with each of the quick-switching contacts to be opened after opening of the quick-switching contact with a presettable delay time, which is dependent upon the power levels in which the slow-switching contact is connected. The resistor across the quick-switching contacts includes at least two serially connected resistance conductors which are gradually introduced in the interrupted circuit by the arc formed between the resistance conductors upon opening of an associated quick-opening switching contact.
