    • Übliche Recorder zeichnen Datenpakete auf, deren Format an das Datenformat des Recorders angepaßt ist. Haben die Datenpakete jedoch ein abweichendes Format, ergeben sich verschiedene Schwierigkeiten, z.B. mit dem Fehlerschutz. In solchen Fällen ist daher auch kein Suchlauf-Mode mit einer zumindest partiellen Auswertung von Datenpaketen vorgesehen.
      Erfindungsgemäß werden darum die Datenpakete vor der Aufzeichnung/Speicherung entsprechend Fig. 1 'quer' angeordnet, d.h. es wird nicht jedes Datenpaket (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) fortlaufend aufgezeichnet/gespeichert (in vertikaler Richtung in Fig. 1), sondern es wird fortlaufend der erster Abschnitt (a) der Datenpakete aufgezeichnet (in horizontaler Richtung in Fig. 1). Anschließend werden die weiteren Abschnitte dieser Datenpakete aufgezeichnet. Beim schnellen Suchlauf eines digitalen Recorders können die Schrägspuren aber nur abschnittsweise gelesen werden. Von den Datenpaketen (1...5) würden nur Rudimente erfaßt, die für die Wiedergabe nicht sinnvoll decodiert werden können. Es werden nun in bei einem Suchlauf zusammenhängend lesbaren Reserve-Abschnitten zusätzliche Datenpakete (A1, A2, B1, B2) aufgezeichnet, die auch teilweise Kopien von den bereits auf 'normale' Weise aufgezeichneten Daten sein können. Beim Suchlauf mit erhöhter Geschwindigkeit werden dann diese Reserve-Sync-Blöcke ausgewertet.

    • In a helical scan recording system, magnetic tape (31) is transported by a tape transport (98) proximate a rotating scanner (85). The scanner has a pair of read heads (82) mounted thereon, e.g., a first read head and a second read head, which travel in a helical direction on the magnetic tape in view of the transport of the tape and rotation of the scanner. A synchronization detection system (38) determines a first synchronization mark detection time at which a first synchronization mark is read by the first read head from the first track, and a second synchronization mark detection time at which a synchronization mark read by the second read head from the second track. A position error signal generator (100) develops a position error signal (PES) based upon a difference between the first synchronization mark detection time and the second synchronization mark detection time. The servo or transport controller (98) uses the position error signal to develop a servo correction signal for adjusting the position of the read heads. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a first distance separating the sync marks along the helical direction of head travel is sufficiently less than a second distance by which the read heads of the pair are circumferentially separated on the scanner to render the position error signal (PES) immune to any variation in the rotational speed of the scanner. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the position error signal generator comprises a coarse position error signal generator; a fine adjustment signal generator; and a combination element. The combination element combines a course position error signal and an adjustment signal to obtain the position error signal PES which is used by the servo controller to keep the read heads traveling along a longitudinal centerline of their respective tracks.

    • A format for the recording of trick play signals in which trick play segments including sync blocks of information of a trick play signal are recorded in the tracks. At least first and second trick play signals are recorded on the record carrier. The first trick play signal is meant for reproduction in a reproduction apparatus at a reproduction speed n1 times the recording speed with which the trick play signals are recorded on the record carrier. The second trick play signal is meant for reproduction in the reproduction apparatus at a reproduction speed −n1 times the recording speed.
