    • Disclosed herein is an outboard motor including a propulsion unit including an internal combustion engine having an exhaust port and an exhaust gas discharge system (45) including a catalytic converter (51) comprising a housing (53) having an outer wall (55) defining an axis (57), an inlet end (61) with an inlet (63), and an outlet end (65) with an outlet (67), a catalytic element (71) located in the housing concentrically with the axis and having an outer surface defining, with the housing outer wall, an outlet volume which increases in size in the direction toward the housing outlet end, an inner surface spaced from the outer surface, defining therein an inlet volume, and defining, adjacent the housing outlet end, a by-pass opening communicating between the inlet volume and the housing outlet, and flow passages extending radially outwardly from the inner surface to the outer surface, communicating, at the inner surface, with the inlet volume, and communicating, at the outer surface, with the outlet volume, and a deflector moveable between a blocking position closing the by-pass opening and a by-pass position spaced from the by-pass opening and allowing flow therethrough from the inlet volume to the housing outlet.

    • The invention relates to an exhaust gas scrubber (1') for cleaning exhaust gases from combustion engines, particularly ship engines, of impurities, the exhaust gas scrubber comprising a bed-like structure (3') which is supported from below by a support grate (14') and through which uncleaned exhaust gases are fed, and feed devices (5') for feeding scrubbing water into the bed-like structure, the exhaust gases being cleaned while passing through the bed-like structure. In order to ensure reliable operation of the exhaust gas scrubber (1') and to be able to dismiss a duplex filter used in connection with removal of effluent from the exhaust gas scrubber, a lower part of the exhaust gas scrubber is, beneath the support grate (14'), provided with a filter (12') to prevent a filler material from entering a discharge outlet (13') located in the lower part of the exhaust gas scrubber and provided for discharging the scrubbing water containing impurities of the exhaust gases, i.e. the effluent, from the exhaust gas scrubber. The invention also relates to a ship provided with an exhaust gas scrubber (1').
