    • A station wagon type vehicle body includes a rear opening whose lower portion is selectively closed by a tailgate. A pair of support arms extend along the vertical edges of the opening when the tailgate is in closed position and have their upper ends pivoted to the vehicle body for swinging movement about a transverse vehicle body axis substantially midway between the upper edge of the opening and the upper edge of the closed tailgate. A first latch mechanism including a pair of first latch members normally extending from the tailgate into engagement with the support arms is actuatable to disengage these latch members with the support arms and allow swinging tailgate movement in a drop-gate mode to a first open position about pintle portions of a pair of second latch members associated with a second latch mechanism. The second latch members normally extend from the tailgate through the lower ends of the support arms into engagement with the vehicle body and move out of engagement with the vehicle body upon actuation of the second latch mechanism to allow upward swinging movement of the support arms and tailgate movement in a lift-gate mode to a generally vertical second open position. The support arms straddle the upper portion of the opening with the tailgate in the second open position and allow full access to the opening while concomitantly minimizing the distance the tailgate extends outwardly of the adjacent vehicle body confines. Linkages connecting an actuator handle to the latch mechanisms include lost motion connections such that the handle is moved in opposite directions to selectively actuate either latch mechanism.

    • A liftgate cargo module having an integrated tailgate that unfolds from a hatch or liftgate of a vehicle that adds additional storage and provides a cargo load floor. The integrated tailgate also includes integrated anchor points formed on the cargo load floor so items may be tied down and secured. An all-weather enclosure that is connectable to the cargo load floor for enclosing contents that are being hauled on the integrated tailgate may also be provided.

    • The invention relates to a locking device for an opening panel.More specifically, the invention relates to a vehicle comprising a body, a first opening panel which is mounted such that it can move in relation to the body and a second opening panel which is mounted such that it can move in relation to the first opening panel. The inventive device comprises two essentially-identical strikes, each strike comprising a strike wire (46) with two upwardly-projecting strands (80A, 80B) which are fixed to a horizontal plate (50). According to the invention, a first strand (80A) of a first strike (40) comprises a first active segment (82A) which is adapted to co-operate with a first bolt (44) of a first (42A) lock (42A) of the first opening panel, said first strike being mounted in a first mounting position. Moreover, a second strand (80B) of a second strike (40) comprises a second active segment (82B) which is adapted to co-operate with a second bolt (44) of a second lock (42B) of the second opening panel, said second strike being mounted in a second mounting position. In the second mounting position, the strike (40) is offset by 180° around a vertical inversion axis (128) in relation to the first position. A first vertical plane (P1) passes through the aforementioned two active segments (82A, 82B) and a second vertical plane (P2), which is orthogonal to the first plane (P1), passes through the inversion axis (128). Furthermore, the fixing point (83) of at least one of the strands (80A, 80B) is offset in relation to the active segment (82A) thereof in the direction of the second plane (P2).
