    • The present invention relates to an image encoding/decoding method and device using coefficients of an adaptive interpolation filter. The image encoding device of the present invention comprises: a coefficient calculator for calculating coefficients of an adaptive interpolation filter of a current frame; an image encoder for interpolating a reference frame by using the coefficients of the adaptive interpolation filter, and for encoding the current frame by using the interpolated reference frame; a filter flag encoder for generating and encoding a flag with/without a coefficient inserted as a filter flag, based on the coefficient of the adaptive interpolation filter of the current frame; a coefficient encoder for encoding the coefficient of the adaptive interpolation filter of the current frame, if the flag with a coefficient inserted is the filter flag; and a bit-stream generator for generating and outputting a bit stream, the bit stream including the encoded current frame, the encoded filter flag and additionally the coefficient of the adaptive interpolation filter of the encoded current frame. According to the present invention, encoding efficiency or compression efficiency can be improved by reducing a bit amount for the adaptively determined coefficient of a filter, while encoding an image through the adaptive determination of the coefficient of an interpolation filter.

    • The present invention relates to an image encoding/decoding apparatus and method using a multi-dimensional integer transform. The image encoding method of the present invention comprises: dividing a sub-block into rectangular block units and encoding the units stepwise so as to output a rectangular encoded bitstream for each sub-block, and encoding a sub-block into square block units so as to output a square encoded bitstream for each sub-block; and computing the encoding cost for a case where at least one rectangular encoded bitstream is included and the encoding cost for a case where no rectangular encoded bitstream is included and then, based on the costs, generating and outputting a bitstream for a macro block by using at least one of the square and rectangular encoded bitstream. According to the present invention, since a high-efficiency encoding scheme is selectively determined when encoding or decoding an image the prediction accuracy may be increased, and this in turn can improve the image encoding efficiency.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for selecting a prediction mode, and to an image encoding/decoding method and apparatus using same. The image encoding apparatus according to the present invention comprises a bit stream generator for: selecting an intra-prediction mode of a current block based on a variation in pixel values of adjacent pixels of the current block to be encoded in an input image, performing intra-prediction of the current block according to the intra-prediction mode of the selected current block, encoding generated remaining blocks, and generating encoded coefficient bits; generating and outputting a bitstream including the encoded coefficient bits and prediction mode bits indicating the intra-prediction mode of the selected current block in macroblock units or sub-block units; and selectively including the prediction mode bits in the bitstream based on the variation. According to the present invention, the selection process of a prediction mode for image compression can be simplified, the compression rate can be increased, and the size of compressed data can be reduced, to improve compression efficiency.
