    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superior gas diffusion cathode which has long time stability and lowers cell voltage compared to a conventional electrode so as to enable the industrial production of gases through brine electrolysis in which the cathode is exposed to a harsh electrolysis environment.
      SOLUTION: The oxygen-gas diffusion cathode 1 for use in the brine electrolysis has a catalyst layer 2 comprising silver and palladium formed so as to cover a porous and electroconductive substrate 3 made from silver, a hydrophobic material and a carbon material. Thus, formed structure makes the catalyst layer 2 including silver and palladium decrease overvoltage by lowering electric resistance and improving catalytic activity, and makes the electroconductive substrate 3 provide superior gas supply properties because of its porosity and improved electroconductivity. Accordingly, the cathode can decrease the overvoltage, reduce the resistance component, improve durability, and can be used for the brine electrolysis of which the electrolysis condition is harsh among electrolysis reactions.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a porous electrode for electrolysis carrying a catalyst only on the surface of the porous electrode without carrying the catalyst inside pores on the inside of the porous electrode and usable as an electrode substrate or a current collector. SOLUTION: At least the substrate surface side space of pores is sealed with a sealant 6 by covering a porous substrate surface 1 having pores 2 with a sealant solution, a catalyst layer is formed on the substrate surface, and the sealant is eluted and removed. Penetration of an electrode catalyst into the pores is substantially prevented, and the porous electrode for electrochemistry in which the electrode catalyst is present only on the surface can be obtained.
